Most auto parts carry grade 8 bolts. Most old garages will have one laying around. Try a junk yard.

Tap the threads before sending to the machine shop. Cleaning should help clean them out and recheck before assembly just to make sure all chips are gone. Use light oil on threads prior to torqeing.

Solved, small block oil filter adapter plate has square drive inside the thread tube. I wasn't get it tight enough with a pipe wrench on the threads, I didn't want to gouge them.

Filter adapter has gasket to engine side, put small plastic gasket to filter side, still leaks, Fram ph43 filter. Any thoughts

Rebuilding a 73 340. Heard about a plug that is in the area of the distributor. Can be checked by poking a rod somewhere in that area. Sounded like some kind of oil galley plug. Has anyone heard of this?
