OK, well if you can be bothered, you could study the fluid diagrams on how the transmission shifts. Understanding how each system works can make fiddling with the trans easier. I wouldn't bother removing the pan unless you are looking to adjust the rear band, adjust main line pressure or fiddle...

Make sure the pan is flat and straight, don't over tighten the bolts.

So are you trying to fine tune a stock, unknown mileage, sloppy transmission?

For what it's worth, I've only had dealings with Schumacher mounts once. It was customer supplied and it was awful.

You can use most carbs that are correctly sized if you are willing to do the tuning. 238@50 says you're not going to need a bunch of carb size.
