Building a semi-clone LO23 for street/strip use. Engine is 500" 10.5:1, Crower SFT 238/249 @ 050 cam, modern MP cross ram & ported MP aluminum heads. I'm looking at two Carter Competition Series 750 AFBs, Edelbrock AVS2 650s, possibly ponying up for a pair of Holley 770s, or Holley 4224 660 center squirters. I'm looking for input on which of these, or what else to consider, and why. Please let's keep this from turning into an Carter/Eddy vs Holley pissing contest. Thank you.

I have found the most streetable carbs and easiest to tune
are the dedicated cross ram carbs off 64 Max Wedge (3705SA)
and 64 race Hemi (3861SA I think).

Thank you John. I'll definitely add them to the top of the list. My only concern would be their availability - but this is the first I'm hearing about them so I've got some research to do.

I've heard 660 center squirts are track only but Andy at Unity Motorsports Garage , with Dave Vizard, has them street tuned. Lots of tunnel ram, which you don't have, videos on how to make them work. Just saying. I run a set of QF 450s which i think are too small. And I've started to work some Holley 1850s with QF metering blocks and drilled and tapped air bleeds, transfer slot restrictions too. Allstate sells 650DP main bodies with replaceable bleeds for what I consider cheap. Good luck.

Go big or go home. Put two of these on it.

And what are the details on those?
Made by a company called BLP. They call it "The Big Bo". They can make them in very large CFM numbers. Like 3500 and more.

I would like to be more knowledgeable about fuel injection paired with a crossram manifold. I haven't done much exploration of this application, but as my Dart starts coming together I may get serious about doing so.

2 500 Edelbrocks on a street driven 472 Hemi. Worked for me !

AR engineering makes crossram linkage to use 1850’s or maybe 3310 Holleys. Less money than buying the 770’s

I ran two 750 competition chokeless afb's on a maxwedge. Ran well. I have no idea where you'd get some today.
If I had a Hemi, and had to do it today, I'd probably run a couple tunnel ram tuned 750 dp holleys or equivalent specialty holley clone.

As long as the carbs are reasonably sized for the engine and drivetrain combo, any carb is streetable. To that end, how much street vs track usage in percentage value on what the car is doing as well as how important the ET slip is can weigh towards one side.

If it is mostly street bound, I’d look to the Edelbrock AVS II.
The only problem with an Edelbrock is the gap in available cam. There is a 500, 650, 800, but no 750.

You can use most carbs that are correctly sized if you are willing to do the tuning. 238@50 says you're not going to need a bunch of carb size.

I agree. A pair of AVS II - 650’s would do well for the street. The engine will not want to rev high between the engine and camshaft size. Primarily annular boosters for nicer driving manors and enough cfm to get it done.

What is the car and weight, gear ratio and tire size?

I appreciate the input from everyone. The car is an all steel '68 Dart, 4.10 geared D60, and 28" tires. It will split duty between track time (not chasing ET/mph) and trips for ice cream. The goal is to have the look, feel & sound of a LO23 while remaining streetable. Nothing is in stone yet - however, I have found a pair of dedicated cross ram carbs (3705SA) that shold fill the bill nicely.

Funny you should mention having no idea where to find a pair of 750 Competition AFBs as I was offered two in very nice shape but not until after I committed to the 3705s.

The AVS2 650s were a strong consideration specifically for their reported excellent street manners but I pulled the trigger on the Max Wedge carbs for the old school look under the velocity bells.

Nothing would be easier and look as proper as Holley 4235/4236 crossram carbs. Don't spend any time thinking about this decision. If you do anything else you might not be happy in the end.

Cool! Do you know the cfm rating of those carbs?

Agree on looks.
Ease of working on, questionable. Pros and cons to both.
