Hard downshift from 2nd gear to first. A-833 4-speed.

in your first post you mentioned that you put in a dual diaphragm clutch in the car. Did you mean a dual disk diaphragm clutch? If so check the departure on the second clutch disk(closes to the trans). On sum of these dual disk clutches the disk will hang on the input shaft and keep spinning...

    Tire clearance

Another wheel tire combo I tried on my Dart were the rear wheels and tires off my 2012 Challenger R/T Classic with the 20x8 inch wide Cragar SS looking wheels with 275/40/20 tires. Those wheels have 5.5 inches of backspacing and the tire are 10.5 inches of section width. Other than I thought the...

    Tire clearance

Like I said in my other post, a 7 inch wheel with 4.5 inch backspacing(mine were Weld wheels) with a stock A body axle with stock drum brakes. Makes all the difference between a 255/60/15 tire fitting, without rubbing and rubbing on the outside wheel well and lip. I ran those same 255 tires...

    Tire clearance

My honest opinion is no, I think they will rub on bumps, dips and turns on the outside edge of the wheel opening. I installed the Dr. Diff leaf spring inboard kit (which move the springs in a 1/2 inch and i have Caltrac one inch lowering springs) a few years back and mounted my 9/28/15 M/T...

    Tire clearance

You need a 7 inch rim with a 4 1/4" (factory bs. on rally and police wheels) or a 4 1/2" backspacing wheel to fit a 255/60/15 tire. The 4 1/2" bs. wheel will give maximum clearance against rubbing with stock to lowered suspension early A bodies with weight in the trunk or 3 to 4 people. I have...

Front Drum brake troubles on a 1964 Dart

A buddy of mine went through a similar problem with the 11 inch drum brakes on his GTX. What he found was the same as some others have said, new drums out of round but with a twist. He also found that the new shoes were only touching at the very top of the front shoe and very bottom of the back...

Cylinder head discussion 340 with stock above deck pistons

Pittsburgh, Didn't we all run that junk back in the 70's when we didn't know any better, and we broke a lot of parts too. Just like torque converters have come a long way since then, so has clutch technology. I haven't broken a part in my 4spd street Dart in at least 10 years and probably longer...

Cylinder head discussion 340 with stock above deck pistons

I am guessing it's been a very long time since you have raced a clutch car. The days of flooring it and dropping the clutch with a 3600 lbs pressure plate are long gone unless you really like destroying driveline parts. It's all about clutch management now.

Cylinder head discussion 340 with stock above deck pistons

Not with a stick car with 235 drag radials. He is dropping the clutch at 2500, bogging the engine down and driving out to a 2.0 60 foot. He needs to come out higher and manage the clutch slip with a bias ply slick and get it down to at least a 1.70 60 foot and the car should run in the 12's...

Cylinder head discussion 340 with stock above deck pistons

First off is you need to be launching the car at a higher rpm, at least 5000 and ride the clutch out far enough so as to not let the rpm's drop more then a 1000 rpm's. If you have the close ratio 4 spd, then you have a 2.47 first gear coupled with a 3.55 rear gear give you a 8.76 starting...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

You don't want one of those Ansen bells, a buddy of mine had one on his 66 Hemi Coronet and I swear it out weighed the 18 spline 833 that was behind it.

Adding Bronze Bushings to Ductile Iron Rockers

Oh ya, and I ran those weakened fragile bushed W2 rockers for 8 years, shifting at 7500 with 670 lbs spring pressure over the nose and thousands of street miles with 4.89 gears. Must have been real lucky, because not one of them broke. They held up better then the Comp roller lifters link bar...

Adding Bronze Bushings to Ductile Iron Rockers

It has been quite a few years since I ran W2 heads, so the memory has faded since then. But as far as I can remember from having both a set of bushed and non bushed rockers, there were no differences between them other then the bushing. The part of the rockers the shaft went through were a lot...

    360 stroker questions

How much power/weight will a stock 833 take? It all depends on the clutch that is going to be used. Add some slip to the clutch and it will last a lot longer than a clutch like a CenterForce II, that will find every weak point from the clutch back. A little clutch slip will improve your 60'...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

So you will be parked with the rest of us Dart A Body Modified owners, we usually get parked in the first, second, or third row as you come through the main gate. Be great to see you there. How tight to set solid lifters

rumblefish, I did play with the lash settings with the 590 cam, don't know if it was my combo or or just the 590 cam, but I don't remember it making any difference in the performance of the engine. I do remember that that after playing with the lash settings that I ended up tightening up the...

How tight to set solid lifters

On the engine that is in my Dart which has aluminum heads and solid roller lifter cam with 256I/262E @.050 .668 lift, I did a lot of experimenting with valve lash. I found that I got a more consistent valve lash hot and cold if i adjusted the valves cold. The Bullet cam card called for .018 IN...

Trailering to a race in freezing temperatures

I put a petcock in both drain plugs in the engine block. Then I use a 36 inch 3/8 extension to reach down between the header tubes to push on the wings and spin them open and closed. A long with the one in the bottom of the radiator gets enough water out that I have never had a problem with the...

    Nick's Garage dyno's a 318 Stroker.

If you go back two videos back from Nick's 390 dyno video, he had a 360 stroker video, which came out to 410c.i. The 390 best pull on the dyno was 405 HP with 360 heads, RPM Performer intake and stock exhaust manifolds, the 410 made 425 HP with Edelbrock heads, RPM AirGap intake and headers...

PRH, All those FB warriors have to do is get out the there little part number books, and it's going to break their hearts when they see that Brian's Duster is the legalese car in the class. I will bet those three Corvettes and the Chevelle your going to be hard pressed to find a factory part...

Great job Mopar on the big win

Well we all know what's going to happen next to the FX class, if a Chevy does not top it by the next race. If that was a Chevy in the other lane then the sanction is already in the works.

I’m guessing this is to slow the Mopars down

mikedevore, Could you let us know what rule changes NHRA made for the Chevys. I am kind of curious if it was to the same severity as to what NHRA did to the Dodges. A 7.50 chase cert. says to me that a 7.58 class record is legal and a 7.49 needs to be recertified to the next quicker class or...

The importance of measuring bell housing runout.

I switched the Lakewood bell out to a Quicktime bell when they came out with an SFI rated bell. That bell was with in the .005 run out, but I had to do like jbc426 said and shim the top of the bell out .010 to square it to the back of the block. Pays to always check all driveline parts.

The importance of measuring bell housing runout.

When I switched my Dart over to 4spd 22 years ago, I picked up a used Lakewood blowproof bellhousing and all the parts and pieces to put it together. I’m guessing this is to slow the Mopars down

NHRA added 50 pounds to the Dodges a few years back, and when they kept winning, NHRA subtracted 50 pounds from the Chevys and Fords. Which put the Dodges with a 100 pound penalty and I think they did something to there super chargers too,to slow them down at that time.
