    custom converter

What company does Martin Saine work at? When you said feels like a manual trans that really raised my eyebrows. If you don't mind me asking what kind of prices does he charge? crazy 340 - I have heard good things about Dynamic as well. I have also read up on Turbo Action to. Sounds like there...

    custom converter

I have been thinking about ways to lower my '60 foot time in my Duster. I was considering headers but have been thinking maybe a bigger improvment would be a custom converter from Ultimate or PTC. I searched the forums and Ultimate seems to have a lot of feedback. Would this be something...

    checking trans fluid

I have been meaning to check my trans fluid. Is there a way to determine the fluid level while the engine/trans is cold? everything is always scolding hot once I get back from a drive. I know it should be in neutral but I was thinking there would be a way to determine the level when sitting cold...

    Reverse issue

Thanks everyone I really appreciate. I'll probably drive it tomorrow and i'll see what it does when starting in neutral. Of course adding more fluid is something that should and will be done. Thanks again

    Reverse issue

I think something is wrong with my transmission. It's the original 904 but with around 10,000 miles since it was rebuilt. This only happens when its been sitting for a while. I would say at least a week without moving. Yesterday for example I went to drive it. When I shifted into reverse The car...

    odd noise

As far as the u-joints go what should I look for? Would they just be real loose and have lots of play if there going out?

    odd noise

To be honest I don't know what type of bearings they were. This is the kit I purchased from randys ring and pinion. I bought the axel bearings separate. They are timkin and I used what was in the catalog for a 8 1/4. I would assume OEM style but I'm almost 100% positive they are not the green...

    odd noise

If I have time this weekend i'll jack it up and try that. Should defenitly be able to pin point it and determine where in the rear its coming from. Thanks for the tip "fishy68" I take it to replace those bearings the whole rear end has to come apart?

    odd noise

New axel bearings were replaced when the rear-end was done. Maybe he didn't do the best job. Is it a good or bad sign that it dosn't make the sound as much as in the past? I would assume good but im no mechanic. I would rather it be bearings than my rear-end going to crap. Thanks guys for...

Yes we did use kendall sure-grip additive. I beleive the oil is valvoline 80w-90. You think maybe I should put some more additive in?

    odd noise

Lately I have been having a strange noise coming from the back of the car. I noticed this about a month ago. Although when I first heard it, it was the first time I drove the car with the windows up. With them down it's almost impossibile to hear. So this may have been going on all summer...

    8 1/4 2.45 housing, is it different?

Unless they changed the housing design you should be fine. My 8 1/4 is the same housing from the factory. You'll notice quite a difference in driveability.

    8 1/4 2.45 housing, is it different?

I am pretty sure you can't use the same carrier. My 8 1/4 originaly had a 2.45 open gear. A 3.21 gear was put in but with a mopar sure-grip differential. I may be wrong but if I had not purchased the sure-grip, only the gear set, then it wouldn't work. I bought mine through summit. The...

    Fluid from speedo cable?

Is this an easy fix? How much fluid will come out if the cable is removed? I guess that if I jacked the left side of the car very little would come out. Can the seal/o-ring be found at local auto parts stores or are they a special order piece? Thanks

    Fluid from speedo cable?

I noticed a few drips of trans fluid hanging off the speedometer cable for my 904. Is this a common place for fluid to leak? Beneath the cable on the floor was a small spot of fluid from sitting and I assume dripping every so often after a drive. The cable is wet around the area where it goes...

    Speedometer cable

The odometer is off but the speedometer seems to be a little off when traveling at highway speeds. This is the chart I went by. It's from year one. My rear tires are 215/70/14 http://www.yearone.com/pco/1_0309/full.asp?page=399 I should note that when I purchased this car it had a 2.45...

    Speedometer cable

I'm trying to determine if I need a new speedometer cable. The rear end in my Duster has been upgraded to a 3.21 gear. Afterwards I replaced the pinion with the correct one (32 tooth) When driving down the highway my odometer is almost 10% off when the needle is around 70mph. I remember when I...

    3:23 or 3:55 gears?

I went with the 3.21's for my 8 1/4 (3.23 for 8 3/4) quite comftorable cruising on the highway.

    Replacing pinion seal

What exactly am I measuring on the yoke? Is it just the length? So in order to replace the crush sleeve everything has to come apart? Probably going to cost a fortune just to fix a leak. This really sucks. Anyway possible to use the same crush sleeve? It's less than a year old. Keep in mind I...

    Replacing pinion seal

I'll give them a call. I have seen places online that sell them but only for 8 3/4. Would it still work for a 8 1/4? I'm also thinking about maybe just biting the bullet and getting a new yoke from mancini. Just to be on the safe side. Mine is probably the factory piece. Is the "7260" the one I...

    Replacing pinion seal

Turning out to be a bigger expense than I thought. Mancini racing has this yoke. Would the first one be for my car. It says 8 1/4. Just want to be sure. http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/825yoke.html I checked online and none of the local stores sell crush sleeves. Mancini sells those...

    Replacing pinion seal

Next week im getting my pinion seal replaced by a reputable mechanic. I have an 8 1/4. Last summer new gears and a limited slip were installed complete with new parts. Ever since then the rear end has been leaking. Not much though but enough to notice. It's not the cover however but up near the...

    manual valve body

There was an earlier thread about 904's and 727's and a "reverse manual valve-body" was mentioned. I didn't want to hi-jack the thread, so anyway, what are those and what is their purpose? I have a 904 in my car that dosn't have a manual valve body but I still shift it manualy at times. Just...

    Torque converter questions

I decided to hold off on the converter for now. I determined that if I want a real good converter I probably need to have one custom built tp my specs. As some people on this forum have had done. I don't want the converter slipping and cause premature trans fail. I already have a +1 quart trans...

    Torque converter questions

I talked to Nelson, the owner of ACC today. Very friendly. He recommended the 2,800-3,200rpm stall. It's the street bandit level one. I think I may give this a shot. Seems like they score high in customer service. Thank you very much for the offer "prostr340duster" but I think i'll give ACC a...

    Torque converter questions

I looked up some prices from summit on coolers. Not as expensive as I was expecting. A small one would run me about $35. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to use one just for peace of mine. How exactly are they installed? Is it an easy job? Thanks
