Sure grip thrust button (spacer) question

I have a 489 case with auburn suregrip. To run my moser axles with green bearings the thrust spacer had to come out.

    manual valve body?

As mentioned, forget about transbrake unless going reverse pattern, I've never seen one available. I have a forward pattern low band apply full manual Turbo Action, in my 904 behind a 340 in my '71 Fargo. Works good, and for a cruiser I like having engine braking in 1st. I also have a non LBA in...

small block 727 and 904 switches

If rebuilder did a good job you'll be fine, stall speed dependant on power. Like previously mentioned, make sure both mills are both internally balanced and you'll need nothing.

    727 Deep pan

I use the hard mopar reusable gasket, has the rubber o-ring style sealing on each side. Same part number OP mentioned, but I have it written down as ending with an "AB". And for the same style on a 904 being 4295875AC. I know the 904 number is good, just bought one a couple weeks ago. But in...

    Case differance's

It's not like the 741 is weak, even though it has the smallest pinion shaft, it's just the other 2 options are stronger. If you plan to upgrade in HP, snatch the 742.

    cone type auburn

You can find them on ebay, Randys Ring and Pinion or Dr. Diff or similar. Cone type aren't rebuildable so I'd guess its not possible to change it to a clutch type. Someone else will be able to confirm.

    Case differance's

Larger pinion shaft for the 742. Undoubtedly stronger.

    trans leaking again after rebuild

^^^^^^. Ya, my bad. I forgot about the time it took for a few things, especially the bushings and cleaning. Alzheimer's moment, I just had assembly on the brain...doh.

    trans leaking again after rebuild

Hmm, I just put my 904 together yesterday, in 2.5hrs. I had already assembled, the clutch packs. Added new billet servos and accumulator. Only my second time. Installed today, works like a champ. I had to rebuild because I made the mistake of buying a used factory valvebody(too save some money)...

    trans leaking again after rebuild

Same converter? I think I mentioned it in your other post, I had a faulty converter that pushed fluid out the vent. Did they check yours out or test it for you? There's only 2 places to leak from, front seal or vent hole. With a slow drip I'd guess overzealous install of converter on the input...

    pinion seal question

I replaced one in my 489 case, bought it at napa. They only list 2 part numbers for seals and I can't remember which one I bought. It did the trick, no more leaky. They list part #18708 for 1.375 and 1.875 pinion And part #18912 for pinion 1.750. Not really sure how the pinion seal works...

    doh! 904 not a 727

You can cure the explosion factor with a low band apply valve body and/or billet front drum. To the OP, For small parts I've bought from http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com , they have individual pump bushings listed. But I would also agree that you should tear it down if you have had junk...

    New Rear Gears

I had 4.30s in my Demon when I was running a 29" tall tire, now I have 3.55s with 26" tall tire. Both ran about the same 3000rpm at 60mph. I didn't enjoy either on the hiway that much, especially if you needed to do 70mph. I just cruise in town 98% of the time anyway. I run a 3200 converter...

    Reverse Manual Valvebody

I love MVBs with an aftermarket floor shifter, reverse or forward pattern. I prefer not to mess with kick down linkage or cables. I like shifting manually but having no clutch, it's a lazymans A833 lol. My car is a driver, my sweptline will be driver too with same setup. For me it would be no...

    TCI vs. Cope

Glad to read this, you'll be happy you did it yourself and saved $$$$ and added pride. And like Louis states below, you don't need anything special except a press for bearings. This was my excuse to buy a little 12 ton press, and I'm still money ahead. Well said!

    TCI vs. Cope

I had a new TCI street fighter and converter,,,,both junk and needed rebuilding from the get go. This was 3 years ago and I didn't want to try rebuilding myself. Cost me $1200 to fix both. Now my '71 Fargo project needed a trans and I found a 904 used for $100 and I did exactly as crackedback...

valve body and stall converter question

Manual valvebody on column will be a bit annoying me thinks. I'd pop that column lever off and put a floor shifter in like a b&m star or megashifter. I like manual valve bodies as well, I prefer to pick my shift points even while just cruising. A clutchless manual :)

    904 Parts

I just rebuilt my first 904, it's pretty straight forward. Get an ATSG manual, go to YouTube and watch the 19 part series for 727 rebuild, the 727 is almost identical having larger parts. In YouTube type in "rebuilding 727 torqueflite 600hp". There are also some other little short videos found...

    A904 upgrade

For a stock slant six I would just do a factory rebuild on trans, performance parts would be a waste of $$$$ in that 904. Get an ATSG manual and watch a bunch of you-tube vids and give it a whirl. I just finished my first 904 build, was pretty straight forward.

Its exactly as you mention here. Belleview spring in correct, the center opening angles inward towards piston. Thanks for the added comments.

    904 rear clutch assembly question

I guess I'll run it as is then. I ran some air to both front and rear clutch packs via the pump, out of the trans, everything stacked up on an old converter. The clutches actuated like they should, could hear lots of air blowing by somewhere. Maybe because not installed in housing yet? I had...

    904 rear clutch assembly question

I'm just getting my 904 back together and one of the assemblies I forgot to take pics of while disassembling is the rear clutch. To start I got the new seals on the piston (in the correct direction) then on top of that is the belleview spring and the the wave snap ring. Well so far this leaves a...

    TCI Transmission is bad

Well it turns out I fell into the unlucky list. I got a whole 7 miles before she burnt up. Took to a local builder after and found out that something about the pump not installed correctly. I would highly recommend not buying from these clowns at TCI. Luckily none of my hard parts are damaged...

    CSR Trans Shield

I went the built 904 route before, and will again after I probably blow up this TCI 727. I went with an OOTB trans to make my life easy or at least that was the plan untill I heard all the problems people have had with TCI. With doing a full resto from a shell I wanted to make life easier since...

    CSR Trans Shield

I have this trans shield and was wondering about fitment in my Demon. Small block with 727. I have read that for A-Bodys with bigblock/727 that guys have had to massage the tunnel somewhat, so I was curious if similar issues with the smallblock combo. And they also mentioned installing...
