    318 help

Check all hoses from the carb and the manifold for cracks. If the hoses are fine disconnect each hose and check for a change in engine sound. Make sure that all ports on the carb are being used or properly sealed. Can you get it to idle lower than 1200. It should be around 800, depending on...

2 carbs same problem, probably not the carb. Did it ever run, is this a new build? That idle is way to high. No vacuum, you got a huge vacuum leak

    different 318 question

Thanks for everyones input, valve float seems to be the issue. House insurance doesn't cover trees that don't hit the house. Sold the Dart to free up some funds, it sucks but can't do much about it. Hopefully next year I will be back behind the wheel of another Mopar

    318 build

First off you cant put a 360 crank in. Cam selection is a mine field. Electric water pump, are you worried about that small of a HP loss. You can get them at Jegs Etc. Serpentine belt from crank from crank to Alt, you could probably get the pullies from a modern motor, but that small of a...

    different 318 question

Car starts easily. The gears are brand new. the tires are 26". The exhaust is new. The tach is cheap, it could be out. No back fire, sputtering or strange noises, it just "lays over", I am thinking it is valve float but not sure. Carb could be an issue will check it out as well this weekend.

    different 318 question

What I mean by it drops off is that it no longer pulls, just makes noise. 60 mph is about 3000rpm, 70 mph is all I got. So before I make a cam decision I will run a comp test, check the timing , making sure the advance works. Don't have glass packs, the timing chain is not original, but it...

    different 318 question

The 318 in my 1974 has a stock long block with an LD340 intake and a carb from a 70 dart 4 spd. (don't know the CFM) and dual exhaust. With the original 2.45 gears it seemed to run fine, very low RPM. Car now has 3.55 seems to run out of steam after 3500rpm. The question, was the motor built...

    A/C to no A/C

If you don't mind running that large pulley on the crank, just get a smaller belt to run the alt. If you can find a small block with a complete set of pulleys you can replicate the setup from the Duster.
  16. Mikes270dart

    A/C to no A/C

easy route just pull off the compressor and remove all the external bits. if going deeper you will need a non a/c heater box and have the holes in the firewall filled. when you remove the compressor you may need new pulleys depending on how the belts run.

    340 90* oil adapter gaskets

there should be three gaskets. You are missing the big gasket. It goes between the block and adaptor.

    intake gaskets

Is there a difference between 1965 273 intake gaskets and other small block intake gaskets. Is it because of the different mateing angle of the 65.

    not good

I pulled the head to see what the problem was with the valve. Removed the spring and had to use a rubber hammer to knock out the valve. It was stuck because of gum/varnish on the valve stem. cleaned it up and it moved freely in the guides. would this be caused by the stuff that they call gas...

Wanted to see why the 273 was running so poorly, I think I found out why. I can push the valves and unseat the valves except for that exhaust valve. I quess the motor is comming apart.

    273 questions...a few of them

I'm sure you have a problem with cam timing. i ran a 484 in a 318 a 535 in a 340 and a 606 in a 440, all way above the stock lift and had no clearence problems. you are either opening to soon or staying open late. pull the heads, yea your gonna need new gaskets and check your pistons and get...
