Failed heater core- '67 Barracuda small block, no A/C.

Thanks, folks! It sounds like the aftermarket heater cores may not be worth installing. Maybe I can track down NOS.

Failed heater core- '67 Barracuda small block, no A/C.

The heater core failed today in my trusty '67 Barracuda. Darn thing only lasted 52+ years! Sopping up the mess now. The car is a small block without factory A/C. My factory service manual's procedure for replacing the core only covers cars with factory A/C. It looks like the procedure would...

Need Radiator with a temp sending unit

A radiator shop could drill a hole in the radiator and solder on a boss with a threaded hole for a sensor. But, I prefer 412 stroker's suggestion.

67 Dart 383 high temperature question

The variations in temperature readings could just be the thermo-mechanical gauge voltage regulator acting up- common MOPAR issue that I've learned to ignore. If your gauge regulator is the silver can type (i.e., not built into the gas gauge), there is a fix that involves replacing the regulator...

Upper molded radiator hose A/C 273 cars

That looks like the hose NAPA sold for my '67 273, no factory air. Mine has an aftermarket A/C unit. Turns out, somebody moved the radiator top hose connector from the driver side to the passenger side, probably to clear the aftermarket compressor. No factory hose is going to fit correctly...

whats the deal with mopar thermostat housings?

Trailbeast: I know what you mean about the orange silicone. My new Chevy van came with leaking valve cover gaskets and that's how the dealer repaired them. Never leaked again in 13 years. I did use a silicone sealant on the t'stat housing, but the leak came up around a bolt head...

whats the deal with mopar thermostat housings?

I thought I had this problem licked with a new t'stat housing (pot metal, not chrome) from Advance Auto, with a new FelPro gasket and Permatex silicone gasket sealant. After 500 miles I began to get a slow antifreeze leak around one of the bolts. What a nuisance. So, I dropped in 2 GM coolant...

Lower Radiator Hose on 68 Barracuda

I see what you mean. Probably doesn't matter, but if you install the ringed end to the water pump inlet, a loose hose clamp isn't going to slide down the hose before you can tighten it. There was no such ring on the equivalent Gates-brand hose I installed this summer.

whats the deal with mopar thermostat housings?

When my factory housing cracked and leaked, I spent $5 at Advance Auto for a replacement, painted it small-block-red and installed it. No leak now.

    Radiator question- 67 Barracuda

Mystery may be solved. The number on the radiator top tank is 38086, radiator is 22" wide, so not a 19" slant 6 radiator. It looks like when the aftermarket A/C was installed, the original hose route had a compressor smack in the way. So, the original radiator inlet hose fitting was cut...

    Radiator question- 67 Barracuda

Car is a 67 Barracuda, 273 2bbl. No factory air, but an aftermarket A/C was installed by former owner. The radiator is Chrysler-branded. The upper hose connection is on the passenger side of the tank. All the photos I see of engine compartments with non-A/C cars show the upper hose...

273 thermostat housing leak- mystery solved!

Well, got the new t'stat housing, it was not chromed and the mating surfce was flat. Installed with a good FelPro gasket and sealant and, voila! After 30+ years of grief, no coolant seepage! Wish I'd found that hairline crack back when...

273 thermostat housing leak- mystery solved!

I've never been able to get this housing to seal completely and I've been trying for 37 years. It always seeped a little coolant and it was getting worse. Thanks to this forum, now, I know why. I found several related threads here and learned several of you reported your housings were...
