    318 and 10's

A buddy of mine runs a 318 in his scamp that has run a best of 10.82 @ 123. Numbers matching block-crank-rods....cast crank.11.8 compression. 5000 grand convertor with trans brake. 2850 weight without driver. Victor intake ported by Hughes. .557 purple shaft solid. 308 casting heads---ported...

    NEW setup

Sounds like the perfect set up. If it stalled at 4000 grand before it will stall at a higher rpm now. The cam is a high rpm runner....I don't really see any problems. I think it all depends on how good the porting was....408's need air.

    Thicker head gaskets/ less compression...

RustyRatRod, Compression is heat. You can run aluminum heads at a higher compression ratio and have the same -heat in the cylinder -as a lower compression steel headed engine because steel retains heat more then aluminum. The compression ratio is what it is. How much...

    Thicker head gaskets/ less compression...

Your engine with aluminum heads should not ping with a 509. Did you give any thought to a better carb. I responded to you in the other post.... 10.7 with aluminum is like 9.7 with a steel head. I run 9.5 comp.with a steel head and the smaller .484 purple cam and can run 89 pump gas. If it...

    Anyone race a 318

You need a set of good heads flowing in the 270 cfm and up range. I have a freind that runs a scamp with a 318 and 308 heads flowing big numbers. Trans brake 904 -- 5000 stall -- 2700 lbs with him in it. 488 gears with a 28 or 29 inch tall tire i think. He runs 10.70's-------- He just changed...

Chase or be chased to the line???

the dragster package.............lol I dial my car 1 hundredth under when running a really fast car compared to mine. Leave it to the floor and throw the boat anchor out the window and under they go. My first round win last week was won because the guy kept his foot to the floor and never hit...

Chase or be chased to the line???

I will be installing a new american eagle radiator soon and this will let me re-install my clutch fan again. It ran to hot for the steel water pump in my barracuda. *1967 318* The car ran 14.24 at the track last week. I figure, with the clutch fan installed, i should see 14.10 or so in ET. The...

Guess ET for 318 ? With slicks ???

Back from the track today and all is well. The plugs looked a little rich when i checked them in the morning when leaving but my 72/82 jets stayed in the carb and me and my cuda went racing. 28 inch tall tire(nito drag radial) 3.91 gears The car went 1st pass ----14.325 @ 92.67...

Guess ET for 318 ? With slicks ???

This is such a old thread that it's like a log book for my cuda. I will be racing this Sunday or --Monday (rain date)-- at Lebanon Valley Dragway in New York at Musclepalooza. I have a set of 3.91's and a 28 inch tall Nitto drag radial on the car at this time. The car's 60 foot should be much...

    Burning tips off plugs

3923 autolite racing plug should be used with that compression. I have been using 3924's in my 9 1/2 to 1 small blocks forever. 3923 is one colder. looks like you got it figured out.

Guess ET for 318 ? With slicks ???

I went back to the track in the fall of 2012 and on my first run, second gear started slipping so bad it stopped working all together. I drove it home real easy and took it to my cousins shop and pulled the 904 trans pan off. The front band for second gear was so out of adjustment that i took...

Guess ET for 318 ? With slicks ???

Well I just bought a set of drag radials and will be going back to the track this week. I raced twice with just street tires and 4.56 gears and it was in the 14.30's to 14.40's coming off the line really easy. It went 94 mph and i shifted at 6000 rpms. I think it's got what it takes to be a...

Guess ET for 318 ? With slicks ???

I have not been on A-bodies only in a while, and have not talked to anyone on here for some time .....but and i hope all is well with everyone. I wanted to complete my cuda for some time by installing a 8 3/4, but getting all the parts turned out to be a longer road then I thought it would, and...

Signs of rust in Engine any Ideas

I would pour some marvel mystery oil down the carb when running and when it starts to smoke turn it off. Make sure you pour it down each barrel of the carb so every cylinder gets oiled. You could also use engine fogging fluid. I think it was from the humid air and lack of use.

Do you use a proform carb???

I just ordered the 750 proform carb today. I sold my 750 double pumper. I hope it last as long as my holley did.
  25. T67POWER

    What will it run?

It's a pretty tight engine as far as the 9.5 compression vs the cam specs. You could have even used more duration and been fine. I like the 4000 grand converter for the engine. The car will be a 60 foot monster and that's where your et will come from. 11.90 to 12.20 is my guess at 108 to 111...

Do you use a proform carb???

The more i do research on this it seems the proform carbs are really good. The 750 proform is $520.00 brand new. I also found out that the new proforms are all aluminum. Both the older design made of die cast -(zinc) and the new -all aluminum- proform carbs are available for the same price. I...

Do you use a proform carb???

I am going with the 750 proform main body for $125. It's the best deal. If you think about it,I will have a hp carb for $125 bucks. They even come with the gaskets and jets. I didn't realize they came with the extra items....... :glasses8: (I'm SOLD)

Do you use a proform carb???

Thanks Joe........ I hear ya..... I wish i could own a 650,750 and 950 ultra. I'm not joking......I would like the ability to tune every part of the fuel curve. When i bought my hp 750 last year the ultra carb was like $900 or so. Now they are cheaper. The kicker is the 950 ultra is $800. The...

Do you use a proform carb???

The 650 is pretty old and beat looking and it's not a double pumper. The 318 runs great with a 750. I should wait and buy the 950 ultra for the 400. Holley and all the other carb company's pricing is set so the bigger carbs are cheaper to a certain degree. It seems the trend is to use a bigger...

Do you use a proform carb???

I have gotten mixed reviews on them, but most of the time positive feedback. I don't like the loose mixture screws info though. I think i will stick with the holley hp or ultra. Quick fuel is the only other consideration. I have a 750 hp on my 360 and love it. I might be selling my standard 750...
