215 drag radial traction

Need some tire experience. Currently running 235 BFG radial TAs. I can't floor the car off the line. I turned a 12.9 @ 104 and I'm still running super rich. The tires are 26 inches tall. If I put 215 drag radials on 14s I end up with 24 inch tires and my rpm through the traps will be 6100 which is right where I want to be.

Is a 215 drag radial going to give me the traction I need to floor the car right off the line?

I'm dying to beat my buddy's 12.5 Chevy!

Are you spinning the tires on the line? What gears you running?
I'm running low 12.90's with my car. I run a 4.30 gear with a 275/50-15
on the back. I haven't had any problems spinning on the line. Run around
18-20 psi in the tires.

To be honest 12.9 at 104mph is pretty much right on the money. You might get a 12.8 or even a 12.7 messing around with gears and tyres but to beat a 12.5 you're gonna need more horsepower.

With some suspension tuning you should be able to floor it out of the hole using the MT ET Street Radials. Since we don't know what kind of 60 foots you are turning now, it is hard to estimate how much you would gain from the additional traction. I have gone as quick as 1.56-1.57 60 foot on the 235 version in a light car (3050 race weight).

With a great 60 ft, you should be able to reach the 12.60s. You are going to need to tune and find some more HP or you need to find a way to reduce the race weight.

Quick tips:
Reduce rotational weight: light weight wheels, aluminum drive shaft, aluminum drums... reducing 1lbs of rotational weight = 10 lbs of static weight

Do you need the spare tire, jack, lug wrench, subwoofer, or golf clubs in the trunk when you make a pass at the track?

Only run with 1/4 tank or less of fuel.

Pump the front tires up to 50+ psi for your passes at the track. Don't forget to drop the pressure when you are done at the track.

On an 8" rim MT ET Street Radials like 14-15 psi. Make sure you check the pressure before every pass.
 
I know 12.5 is going to be hard to achieve. I don't remember my 60' times. I have about 3000 stall converter, 3.73 gears. I hold the car at 1800 rpm and then roll on the gas. Just smashing the gas pedal I spin and end up a 13.7 ET. I have only run with a full tank of gas. I'm kinda stuck with weight because its a pretty correct GTS and I don't have it in me to butcher it.

I also want to keep the 3.73 gears since its street driven. I think the way to go would be 235/60r15 rear tires and get it tuned and go from there.
