    Slant 6 Split exhaust

One way to economize that makes sense is to buy a Dutra casting for the front 3, and use a stock manifold for the rear 3 exhaust ports, which retains the factory heat for quicker warmup times. You have to cut and cap the rear section of the manifold.

Here we go again. Its acting up worse this time!

If you have the cylinder head off anyway, a cheap way to increase power is to have a bit planed off the head. You can take off as much as 0.080" or more, but around .040"- .060" is better for regular gas. To increase compression a lot, you should find the displacement of the combustion...

    slant 6 removal question

Those threaded 3/8" holes between the valve cover and manifolds, on the manifold side, are there specifically for lifting the /6. The front hole is for lifting the engine only, and the rear is for lifting the engine and transmission together. Don't use the manifold studs for this, they will...

    rebuilding a slant 6

A 4-barrel will give you more top-end speed, but a 2-barrel can be better off the line. Also depends on CFM and jetting, etc.

    SLANT 6 a GAS GUZZLER?

Cigarettes and whiskey and classless insluts, they'll drive you crazy, they'll drive you insane. I solved the /6 vs V8 by having one of each. I use the /6 beater as a testing ground and then apply it to the V8 Cali car. The slant is more fun to work on, and I don't worry about messing up the...

Slant 6 talk; My first post

I always say the /6 is a great car to learn on. With only one cylinder head instead of two, you can teach yourself how to port and polish. The power gains are also more noticeable. And the best thing is that if you somehow wreck the motor, you can usually pick up another one for $100, if...

Help setting valves on a 225

Got to agree with Dan and the "do it running" crowd. I've tried it both ways, and it's way easier, and more exciting, to adjust the running engine. The not running method is also less likely to be as accurate. Just don't wear a tie while leaning over the fan.

    is this a good deal?

I have a built-up 340 and a slant six. The 340 has always seemed fast enough already, whereas the slant has been fun to play with and try to get to go faster. After planing the head, porting and radius work, the engine has really perked up. I have an overdrive, and am gearing the differential...

    Is it worth it??

If it's the rockers, you can clean them out with a piece of wire and some penetrating oil. The rocker shaft is hollow and has holes where the oil feeds into the rockers, and it goes through channels and drips out onto the valves and pushrods. Then say a little prayer that it's that and not the...

    Too big of cam?

It's a great engine to learn on. If you can port and polish the cylinder head including short radius improvement, and get the cam degreed properly, and get the intake and exhaust right, you'll be surprised how much torque and power you'll get. Then if you get a V8, you can apply everything you...
