    Ignition Box

Seems like the price has been slowly going down since they came out with that Summit ignition box. I think it was $159 when it first came out. I've thought about getting one but at the rate I get things done it will be a lot cheaper or obsolete & replaced with a better model by the time I get...

70$ voltage regulator vs 20$ one, is it worth it?

I swear, I don't know how you do it. Dan, I want to cut your head open & look inside so I can try to figure out how you can keep so much information sorted out in there! :thumleft: You da' man! :D

    Saving speakers

I had a perfectly good set of Jensen coaxial speakers mounted in my Barracuda. The son of the guy I was sharing a shop with stole them out of my car because "I wasn't using them."

The light would work, but $25.00 shipping?!?!? I know you were just using it as an example. But it's also an example of another eBay idiot! :angry2:

    Theft prevention.

Somewhere about 1974 my Grandmother bought another car & gave my older brother & I her 1962 Fury III 4 door that she & my Grandfather had bought new. We had to get the owner's manual out of the glovebox to figure out how to drive the thing the first time we took it out! :D

Will this work? I know the Positive cable in the set they list for my '64 Barracuda looks EXACTLY like the one that was on it when I bought it in '74. I just hate to pay the price. :-D...

    e3 spark plugs

Only feedback I have is that I put a set in my daughter's 2000 Geo Metro. I keep meticulous records on the car & I could see no improvements of any kind, but this was only a couple of months after we bought the car.

    New Alternator

    Nvm.
  12. '64 Cuda

No Chrome Alternator for me either.

I was just going by what the sellers of the regulators say. The regulators are supposed to work with alternators with outputs up to 65 amps.

    Setting Dwell

Don't know what brand mine was but there wasn't any togggle switch. It had a big transistor on the side or top, don't recall. It had flat pieces of stuff like printed circuit board on the ends of the wires (might have been ribbon cable) that connected it to the coil. IIRC it had black thumb...

    Setting Dwell

When I bought my '64 Barracuda in 1974 it had an add-on CD ignition. That fall I took auto shop in high school. One day I was outside of the shop trying to start my car & it just kept cranking & cranking but barely fired. The instructor came out & told me I was going to burn up my starter...

    Setting Dwell

I thought I was right but it just seemed wrong that his dwell would be less than spec. As the rubbing block wears the point gap should close, increasing dwell. So why is his dwell less than spec? Somebody could have put the points in with the wrong gap (very possible) or I guess something...

    Setting Dwell

Dwell isn't adjustable with electronic ignition. Been a looooong time since I've messed with points but I think dwell is the amount of time in degrees that the coil is becoming saturated, which happens when the points are closed. So, I think, to increase dwell you would reduce the point gap.

No Chrome Alternator for me either.

Stock alternator was probably around 45 amps. I've never seen a replacement electronic regulator that looks like the stock mechanical regulator that was rated for more than 65 amps.

Have 2 electronic distributors , Mopar and Petrinix

Don't know about the Pertronix but I know the Mopar electronic is supposed to have an electronic voltage regulator. If the car has an older black box style regulator I think you can just disconnect it & take it loose from the firewall & look at the bottom. If it has what looks like a couple of...

Have 2 electronic distributors , Mopar and Petrinix

Year vehicle is important. Did you convert to an electronic voltage regulator when you converted to the electronic ignition? There is an electronic regulator available that looks like the original mechanical one & is a bolt in replacement for it. On eBay for $27 I believe. Lots of the big...

Help so close to fire the engine

Back when I was in auto mechanics class in 1974 they told us that Chrysler distributors were bad about wearing out the bushings in them, leading to slop in the gap settings. Still a problem?

Help so close to fire the engine

Are you talking about the pickup in the distributor? If so, the gap is adjustable. You need a brass feeler gauge to do it so you don't get confused by the pull of the magnet. Don't know what the spec is on the gap though. Maybe around .016" to .018"?

Turn signal question - 65 Valiant

The bulb filaments that flash for the turn signals are the same as your brake lights. Do you have brake lights? Also, are your front turn signal bulbs good? You usually have to have both bulbs good on one side for that side to flash. Both bulbs on each side being bad is unlikely though, so...

    Points Gap Chart?

For a V8 the book I have says the same gap for single points or dual points, .016". If you have a Dwell meter you should set a single point set to 30 degrees. A dual point distributor should have each set of points set at 38 degrees for a total of 30 degrees. Plug gap should be .035". Don't...
