My new 8 1/4 has 3.21 gears, is that not normal? It has the tag still attached to the cover. My old 7 1/4 had 2.76 gears which were a lot better for hwy driving. Not sure I like the 3.21, but they are fun around town or country driving.

If I was going to put a sure grip in an 8 1/4 what are the best ones, not used but the better one to use and what ones are junk? I was told the dakota ones are not any good, the clutch style. Thanks

Just my two cents, I noticed a E body 8 1/4 for $50 bucks for sale. Will not fit your A body car unless you cut and resize the rear. $$$ Find an A body rear and change rims. Take care

You should call Chuck's wheel and brake in Santa Rosa , they would know what the cost would be.For that matter you might think about getting new tires and rims it might cost about the same if you buy the new ones off ebay? The rim's that is .

I had the same issue with a jumping speedo and when I would go over 65 mph it would then go crazy and wander up in the 80+ range. The cable was dry 40 years old 69 , popped the cable sprayed lube in the end of cable . Done haven't had an issue since

They are larger on 8 3/4 and the 8 1/4 rear end . You need the shock plates off either to work right .

The piece on the left , the longer one goes down the firewall to the tranny linkage and it connects to the slotted piece up near the carb as posted earlier by someone else .

Yes it is the throttle kick down for the transmission . I have one on my 318 it is was from 74 dodge dart swinger.

I had a friend and his 68 Valiant had a torque converter that was cracked , he pulled it a few times and seals before he figured out it was the torque converter.

So we figured out that a relay off the ballast resistor was bad, I had it wired correct all the time . It fired right up once I by passed the relay. Thanks again:cheers:

Hey, Thanks for everyone's input on the wiring issue, I got someone over tonight with more experience then me with wiring and the right kind of tester. He figured out the relay next to the ballast resistor and electronic ignition was bad so we just by passed that and no problem fired right up...

I'm trying to figure out why my 69 dart won't start after I did a slant six 318 swap? The ballast resistor gets hot when I turn the ignition to the on position like I'm going to start it. There is nothing at the ignition when I try to start it, it will bump the starter if I cross the starter...

I can bump the starter with the relay and I have power to the red wire /hot at the ignition. Should the ballast resistor get hot when I turn the ignition on like I'm going to start it?
