You might be onto something. This was a truck engine, so it could likely be a factory spacer for the trans. But what's throwing me off is the "MOHAWK" inscription, which is above the DPCD logo. Which is leading me to believe that this is an adapter made by Mohawk to fit Mopar products.

This adapter has the starter hole in it, so that the starter actually bolts onto this adapter/spacer. It's unlike the Hot Heads one where the adapter contours around the starter and the starter would then bolt to the trans. Which is yet another reason why I'm questioning this adapter, since it...

Not that I don't believe the previous posts, lol. I just want to be 100% positive. Someone told me the starter wouldn't fit with a Hemi, if I use a 904. It would only fit if I use a 727. And that just doesn't make any sense to me, but would rather be sure instead...

1) Is the starter mounting position different on a 904 then a 727 on a small block bell housing? 2) Did Chrysler ever build a big block "904", not a A999 or A998? Thanks

You got a good deal, the housing without the 3rd member sell for $300. or more. If you got a Sure Grip even better, it's likely a "489" case being it's a '71, another plus. Highway gears, are they 3:23's? The only set backs are the small bolt pattern axles, and smaller dia. drums. Giles

I'm not 100% on this, but I believe the 9 1/4" rear on the Dakota has a 6 bolt axle, at least mine does. It would be nice to get a 5 bolt axle on it, since it has disc brakes also.

The backing plates will interchange from 7 1/4" axles to 8 3/4" axles, make sure the drum Dia. matches the backing plate dia. (IE: 10'' backing plate = 10" drum). also the bolt pattern is important, depending on year... all 8 3/4 A body axles had a 4" bolt circle and I believe a 10" drum. The...

The bellhousing, yes. The flywheel and clutch, I really don't know. It all depends what flywheel will bolt onto the crank.

From what I've heard, the small block Bellhousing is a direct bolt in to the new Hemi's. Smallblocks used a 10.5" clutch. What size flywheel will bolt onto that engine??? I don't know.

The stud comes in really handy, to hold up the weight, if you have room to jiggle, go with the stud.

That would certainly explain the lack of service information available through Chrysler. Anyone know who the manufacturer was (Auburn, Dana...?), there has to be some info on them somewhere.
