1st gen. Hemi to small block bell housing adapter?

    I'll be putting that 354 in a '38 Dodge pick up, I've been S L O W L Y , working on. Nothing extreme, just a bit of cam, more show then go. Although it's already bored .060" over.

1st gen. Hemi to small block bell housing adapter?

I have an adapter lined up, made arrangements to go see it on Sunday. If it doesn't pan out, I'll get in touch with you. Shipping that core from here to California would cost me more then $25., so it's still wall art, unless someone needs it. Anyway you can send me pics of the adapter, and the...

1st gen. Hemi to small block bell housing adapter?

I'd love to say "money is no object", but it is a bit of an obstacle, more so with the exchange rate I'd be forking out. I'm still in the learning stages when it comes to these early Hemi's. So I'm not buying anything unless I'm sure that it's what I need.

1st gen. Hemi to small block bell housing adapter?

I'm also a machinist , I can machine it myself. But I'd prefer not to, considering it's a stock item (as you mentioned) and someone could use it, or just polish it up and use it for wall art. So you've answered my question, and now I know what I have. I'd prefer buying the correct...

1st gen. Hemi to small block bell housing adapter?

You might be onto something. This was a truck engine, so it could likely be a factory spacer for the trans. But what's throwing me off is the "MOHAWK" inscription, which is above the DPCD logo. Which is leading me to believe that this is an adapter made by Mohawk to fit Mopar products.

1st gen. Hemi to small block bell housing adapter?

This adapter has the starter hole in it, so that the starter actually bolts onto this adapter/spacer. It's unlike the Hot Heads one where the adapter contours around the starter and the starter would then bolt to the trans. Which is yet another reason why I'm questioning this adapter, since it...

1st gen. Hemi to small block bell housing adapter?

I recently purchased a 354 Hemi (1959) it came with a trans. adapter. I was told it was for a small block LA series. I have two small block trans. here, both out of pickup trucks, one is out of '88 Ram 318 (727) the other out of a '91 Dakota 4.7 (40RH). My dilemma is, the hole pattern on the...

    Couple quick 904 questions!

So this is a lock in? I bought it, just haven't picked it up. Would still like to know, so I could pursue other opportunities.

    Couple quick 904 questions!

Thanks, man, it's a done deal, just 'cause I hate missing out. I just couldn't get past the "it won't fit part", it's a small block bell housing, so why would the starter be in a different position? It's relative to the ring gear isn't it. So I figured WTF, I'm not 100%, but I think I am...

Bump, anyone? I need to confirm asap, I might lose out on a good deal.

    Couple quick 904 questions!

Not that I don't believe the previous posts, lol. I just want to be 100% positive. Someone told me the starter wouldn't fit with a Hemi, if I use a 904. It would only fit if I use a 727. And that just doesn't make any sense to me, but would rather be sure instead...

Thanks, I kinda knew that, but my memory is starting to fail, lol. Too much info in there.

    Couple quick 904 questions!

    1) Is the starter mounting position different on a 904 then a 727 on a small block bell housing? 2) Did Chrysler ever build a big block "904", not a A999 or A998? Thanks

    8 3/4

You got a good deal, the housing without the 3rd member sell for $300. or more. If you got a Sure Grip even better, it's likely a "489" case being it's a '71, another plus. Highway gears, are they 3:23's? The only set backs are the small bolt pattern axles, and smaller dia. drums. Giles

    bent rearend housing?

^^^^What he said. Now if the axle is bent, that's a whole different story.

    9 1/4 rear end

I'm not 100% on this, but I believe the 9 1/4" rear on the Dakota has a 6 bolt axle, at least mine does. It would be nice to get a 5 bolt axle on it, since it has disc brakes also.

    7 1/4 drums fit on 8 3/4?

The backing plates will interchange from 7 1/4" axles to 8 3/4" axles, make sure the drum Dia. matches the backing plate dia. (IE: 10'' backing plate = 10" drum). also the bolt pattern is important, depending on year... all 8 3/4 A body axles had a 4" bolt circle and I believe a 10" drum. The...

    New Hemi and A833 ?

The bellhousing, yes. The flywheel and clutch, I really don't know. It all depends what flywheel will bolt onto the crank.

    New Hemi and A833 ?

From what I've heard, the small block Bellhousing is a direct bolt in to the new Hemi's. Smallblocks used a 10.5" clutch. What size flywheel will bolt onto that engine??? I don't know.

    Starter bolt vs starter stud

The stud comes in really handy, to hold up the weight, if you have room to jiggle, go with the stud.

Help rebuilding 8 3/4" Sure Grip!

That would certainly explain the lack of service information available through Chrysler. Anyone know who the manufacturer was (Auburn, Dana...?), there has to be some info on them somewhere.

Help rebuilding 8 3/4" Sure Grip!

You're on it Terry, kewl, I saw that article in Moparts already, it's pretty basic info as far as the cone type info goes. I like the last sentence in that tech info."Some level of lock-up" they say, lol. Machining .030" off a surface that's already worn .005" ish and replacing it with .030"...

Help rebuilding 8 3/4" Sure Grip!

Thanks Terry, I'll check in with him for sure, but I'm sure he won't tell me everything, lol. Reason I'm asking, is I have a few cone types around, that I would rather sale in good working condition, but I don't want to spend too much money paying for stuff I can do myself. Given that I know...

Help rebuilding 8 3/4" Sure Grip!

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Does anyone know where I can find the specs. for rebuilding a cone type Sure Grip. IE: Max./Min. plate surface thickness, run-out, flatness, surface finish requirement (machined/ground)...? Spring tension...? Can this be found in a Chrysler manual, if...

    72 Demon 340 J or X heads??

This subject has been discussed to no end, over and over... X, J and O heads are the same casting number "915", "X" and "O" heads typically have the large 2.02" valves, the "J" heads also came with 2.02" valves but not all of them. I have "J" heads on my #'s 340, they are 2.02". Also the...

    What 8 3/4 rearend do I have?

I agree, there is some incorrect info on that chart. I posted it because of the schematic, it's easier to see where the dimensions come from for new folks. Maybe I should try to make one with the correct dimensions.
