    Flowtech headers

Mine fit reasonably good with a 4 speed and no power steering, a small rub on the driver's side tie rod end, but that's it. Otherwise, they do hang a bit low (I never rubbed'em), but the ceramic coating is my biggest complaint, it started peeling after the first year.

    2.5 inch or 3 inch

I'm running 2 1/2" with a small block, so I'd say go with 3" for your big block. The only issue I can think of, is clearance between the gas tank corners and shocks, with the 3" pipe.

    stock measurements

1 7/8", I think for stock exhaust, I'd have to measure to be sure though. Be for sure under 2", I think the 340 was 1 7/8".

    muffler case size

Are you getting a custom exhaust? Built around the muffler?

    muffler case size

Mine are custom stainless, 2 1/2" in/out, the exterior replicates OEM, but little restriction inside. They were made specific to my application, by a fabricator who now has started his own exhaust company in Elmira Ont. Close to home for you Matt.

    casting number help please.

Always nice to have a second opinion. The first may not always be correct. Specially with casting #'s different books, list different #'s (typo's), same goes for some of the references on websites.

    A Body Shorty Stainless Headers

I understand were you are coming from, R&D is spendy. I'm just hoping you get more hits on 4 speeds, so you can build those first. Giles

    A Body Shorty Stainless Headers

I've been wanting a set of stainless, but you missed me in two areas. My car was built for performance, so manual steering, and a 4 speed, and power brakes for stopping. I'd sure jump on a set, when you can get them. How much modification to the "Z" bar would be required?

    Stainless Headers ?

Only because like all other steel, the stainless will dis-colour with purple hues... black, brown...The ceramic coating doesn't discolour as much.

That's kinda, definately not the look I'm after. Although a very good product.

    Stainless Headers ?

Thanks, Adam, I'm well aware of Leanna's coating, and withouth any dispute, I have seen some of her work, and it's second to none! But for me to ship my headers, pay shipping, duty, brokerage fee and exchange rate, does not make it a good investment. Basically what I'm trying to get away...

    Stainless Headers ?

Anybody make them, ceramic coat them? As I'm working under my Duster, doing a trans. clutch replacement/restoration...I'm looking at my now eight year old ceramic coated headers, and I'm thinking, man do does ever look like S**t, the ceramic's is peeling off like sunburnt skin, showing off the...

    340 Manifold numbers question

Galen's not always right either, usually MyMopar is a good source. Here's another good source http://www.mopar1.us/exhaust.html

    340 Manifold numbers question

My numbers are from Galen Govier's parts and numbers casting book. And I also checked my personal exhaust manifold.

    340 Manifold numbers question

My casting numbers list show 3614395 as a 73-74 318 LH manifold. The 340 manifold is 2863553 for 68-71 340 LH for A body. 72-74 was 3614368 for 340 and 360's, these can be found on late production '71 as I have seen cast dates as early as May 13 1971.

    Should I Paint Exhaust?

Being that you are from Texas, I wouldn't be all that concerned about it, as long as you run the car long enough to get the exhaust system hot, that should take care of any condensation issues. But you can get "high temp" aluminized paint that will help preserve it somewhat from the outside...

    x and h pipes

It appears I was mis-understood, or did not explain it very well. Basically what I tried to say was that Both the "H" and the "X" will be a benifit in the flow and a slight gain in power due to the better flow and equalized pressure. The "X" system compared to the "H" is relatively the same...

    x and h pipes

The answer I got when I asked a friend who is a custom exhaust builder, before I had my dual stainless built was that there is a slight gain in HP and torque due to the better flow and less back pressure, both will somewhat lower the tone of the exhaust. The "H" is what he recommended for street...

Exhaust manifold gaskets needed on 340?

You are likely right in not remembering a gasket there, as some didn't. Keep it mind, that this was done when it was new, and all surfaces were machined, therefore creating a seal. With used parts and none machined surfaces (exhaust manifold and cyl. head), it will leak somewhere. Gaskets...

    TTI Exhaust Longevity

Had mine on for 6 years now, I noticed that the ceramic coating started peeling off after the 2nd year, at the bottom by the collectors, and then started rusting. Had to spray them with aluminized paint to try and hide it. This is likely due to myself scratching them when I installed them and...
