What's the slowest car you've raced in the 1/4 ?

My 67 Dart with a 273 auto ran 16.20s. There was a guy back in the day at Inyokern drag strip that had an early 80s Ford Fairmont 4 cylinder. He was a 3 time Bracket 4 track champion. He would run 22.50s all day long. I have only seen him lose a round once. ( my buddy in his 69 Dart 318 put...

    I Have a situation

It sounds like a few mismatched components. I didn’t see where you said what exhaust you have. You mentioned stock 273 manifolds but never mentioned if the stock single exhaust was still in the car? What rear gear are you using? 80 mph trap speed is low. Are you still on the gas or did...

    LD340 and NHRA

The good news is the factory 4bbl intake is very good. Factory intakes can be reworked to make big power as well. The biggest handicap with the iron intake is its weight. Yes it sucks for the stock eliminator racer but it does make sense.

    High compression blues.

Just one thing for thought. Larger duration cams do bleed off compression ........at low rpm. The scavenging effects of long duration lots of overlap will actually build more compression at high rpm. That is why putting a big cam in your car tends to make it doggy off idle and pick up in...

Making my race car slightly less of a race car

I understand the long time. I have more projects and can’t find time to do any of them. I also have a 1968 Plymouth Satellite. About 8 years ago I spun a bearing and locked the motor up. I went out and bought a set of pistons and another block to build. I put it together about 7 years...

Making my race car slightly less of a race car

If I remember correctly my wheel is 10 inches wide. With the bias MT I launch well but it gets a little unstable at higher speeds. I originally started off at 14 psi and didn’t feel safe at speed. Felt the car wiggle in the rear at the 1/8 chased it for a second then lifted. Found...

Making my race car slightly less of a race car

My car is automatic. I know a guy here (not mopar) that has a record holding radial tire car. He has ran a highest top speed of 248. My car runs about 110 in the 1/4. Radial tires should hold

    I saw a set in local classifieds that had 5 passes allegedly. 295 55 r15. That comes out to 28 x 10.6

What is everyone’s opinion on drag radials vs bias ply?

Making my race car slightly less of a race car

Yeah One reason I want smaller tires besides the performance and weight advantages is I feel the car should be mid 10s or quicker with a tire that size.

Making my race car slightly less of a race car

Thanks. I have been running it when I can. I have lots of plans and low budget. Some day I want to freshen the motor up. I was pretty happy when I took and weighed it a few months ago. Potential for a lot more performance is there.

Making my race car slightly less of a race car

Thanks. We have no state inspections here in California. Running lights and brake lights will be a must. Wipers I think are optional. I will also have to add mufflers but can make them removable. Currently it has a 4 point harness that needs recirtification but not required till car runs...

Making my race car slightly less of a race car

The street classes I wanted to enter basically require a license plate. Slicks are allowed but if it spends any real time on the street a dot slick or drag radial may be better. I will check to see if wipers are required.

Making my race car slightly less of a race car

I have a 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 that has been a race car for almost all of its life. I enjoy bracket racing it and it runs pretty well with old school technology. Runs consistent 12.0 to 12.1 with a best et of 11.89 years ago. My local track seems to have more events set up for...

Why is Pro Stock Dodge down on horsepower ?

Plus by changing classes they don't have to justify why cars dropped 2 seconds at. in the quarter mile.

Why is Pro Stock Dodge down on horsepower ?

They already have drag pack Challengers competing. As far as revamping pro stock. I think NHRA may want to make a point that this is a different class aka not associated with 500 inch rear drive Dodge Dart.

Why is Pro Stock Dodge down on horsepower ?

My theory is NHRA has a plan. I do not believe the plan of the future has Prostock in it. If they could kill the class now they would but still have obligations to racers and sponsors. I believe the long term plan will be factory stock racing. They are already promoting the class more...

    How to ask for Sponsorship

I plan to run mostly at a local track.so local dealerships make sense. I am in Bakersfield California. Plan right now to compete in Summit series at Famosa and maybe ANRA events over the summer. How much is appropriate to ask for?

    How to ask for Sponsorship

The sun is coming out and racing season is getting ready to start. I have always footed the bill myself for occasional weekend racing. This year I am going to ask for some sponsorship help. I work at a car Chrysler dealership and mentioned sponsorship to a mid to upper management person. He...

Looking for Tips on building a fuel system

Yes I did read that. And that is the ultimate plan. I just have not removed it yet. Currently the braided fuel line comes off the mechanical pump outlet with a flaird fitting. If I remove the pump now I have to find a way to attach the fitting to the strait steel fuel line which has a...

Looking for Tips on building a fuel system

I installed the carter pump in the back next to the tank. I have not removed the engine mounted pump yet. I noticed the fuel pressure only comes up to 4 psi when the engine is shut off. It comes up to 6 psi once it is started. I am not sure if it is because of the mechanical pump dropping...

Budget racers quickest stock piston and head motors

1969 Dodge Dart Swinger Race Car Motor is painfully stock. Some tricks but mainly just spot on machine work. 340 bored .030 over Stock replacement forged pistons measured at true 10 to 1 Stock x heads with small amount of port matching. .509 lift purple cam degreed and installed straight...

Looking for Tips on building a fuel system

Very good information in the discussion. I have ordered a good pump for my purpose I think. I ordered the Carter 4600hp from summit. I will mount it in the same location as the original electric pump, back near the tank. I am removing the Carter mechanical pump. Now I have to figure...
