Just a WAG here, did you tighten the eccentric bolts all the way in the air or on the ground? Tom

If you weld the slots to limit the total mechanical advance you can still run the vac advance as well. I have an MP dist with 18 intital 33 total mechanical and more from the vac advance near 50 total as well. Tom

I have the same intake and carb with a sb stroker. I have a slightly bigger cam and it idles smooth at 700 in gear. What kind of initial timing are you running? Tom

My 72 Challenger weighs 3710 lbs w/me(205). Small block, Al Intake,Al rad, Al master cylinder, headers, Fiber hood and fenders. These things are tanks. I'm going to find some weight to drop this year. Tom

I drive 50+ miles each way but I run 3.23's in my car. I cruise at 2750-3K rpms(65-75mph). Tom
