Please Help I.D. This Air Breather

it is a 1970 383 440 base from a cop car. the stickers are a give away it is for a cop car to me. warning about the proper thermostat to use to prevent over heating. i do belive the top is generic it is mismatched and does not go with it. here is a link to a picture of a regular car w/ emissions...

Please Help I.D. This Air Breather

it is odd that it is 2 different colors??? a mismatched set maybe? the black half w/ the stickers. this seems to lead me to belive that this is from a police car. the lack of a cold air flap in the snouts also make me think so.......

    71 Duster Fuel vent

yes there are 2 different filler necks. this might have been your problem. the original 71 fillerneck for a california emmisions car w/ the extra tube in the trunk is going to have a different cap. this cap is only going to fit the neck for that cap properly. a non emmision car will have a neck...

    71 Duster Fuel vent

so what would happen if you left the vent tube intact in the trunk and switched the filler tube to a regular vented cap style? anything or nothing at all?

Found locking gas petrol cap for '71 Swinger

california emmision cars for 71 have a different ( 1 year only ) filler neck. the only way to get the proper cap is to have another 71 california cap or change the filler neck to a non california emmisions neck. any dart scamp duster demon or dart sport will work as the necks are the same...
