I wish it was closer craigslist finds

It is all about rust, unless you only care about hauling ***. WV cars don't fare well over 6 decades. Appears to have the Offy Dual-pot "360" intake manifold. I put one on my 1965 Chrysler big-block. It has separate runners for primaries and secondaries, to give better low-end performance...

Craigslist Freak - $400 drum brakes

Yes, Wilwood and Scarebird make 10" front disk kits. But, they also have kits for 9" drum spindles. The main reason to change from 9" to 10" spindles & hubs is because the 9" bearings are a bit wimpy (SET1 and SET3, I recall). Both outer bearings failed in my 69 Dart w/ 9" drums, spinning the...

Craigslist Freak - $400 drum brakes

Good catch. That is an MC for a front disk car, so probably not correct (though would work). Also, not sure when the wire top retainer started. While spindles & hubs are valuable since not available over-the-counter and thus "salvage only", so many people change to front disk setups that such...

Craigslist Freak - $400 drum brakes

TV doesn't help. An episode of the new Hawaii Five-O had McGarrett Jr desperate for a master cylinder for his dad's 70's Ford. As a special favor for saving his family, a mechanic came up with the elusive part. Perhaps they don't have Autozone on the island or can't get to rockauto's webpage...

Craigslist Freak - $400 drum brakes

Sorry, I couldn't find the running craigslist crackheads thread to post this. Just ran across this while browsing along my travel path: Car Parts Only $400 for a rusty master cylinder and 10" SBP drum brake spindles & hubs, and you better live in CA to even apply for this great opportunity...

Craigslist - trying to pass a 2 dr as 4 dr

For you "more door" lovers, those with sharp eyes will note that this gomer is trying to fraud you by advertising a 2 door as a 4 door :wack:. When you view the car, try to talk the dude/chick down for the value of the 2 missing doors. But $4000 is a long way from reasonable for such a beater...

    Those 'Special' Craigslist Ads .....

I mis-spoke. The map shows he actually does live near the beach. Most can't afford Santa Cruz, but at least you can buy into the lifestyle by driving a "Custom Beach Cruiser". Last thing I want is a car that has spent a lot of time around salt water. Anyone remember the TV ads in the...

    Those 'Special' Craigslist Ads .....

I must share this from my local cl: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/5030267821.html I didn't even know that a 4-dr Dart was a "beach cruiser", but with gutter-mounts and a surfboard, it almost passes for a Woody. The stickers and peeling clear coat are a really nice touch. The seller's...

'Sons of Guns' reality star Will Hayden arrested, accused of child molestation:

Recall all the people on here glowing about how great it was that Sheriff Joe in Arizona mistreated inmates in the County Jail by feeding them stale bread and housing them in tents in the desert? I pointed out that most people in jail are awaiting trial and are not "convicts". At that point...

'Sons of Guns' reality star Will Hayden arrested, accused of child molestation:

Too many are falsely accused of sex crimes. Remember the McMartin Day School saga in LA? Everybody deserts an accused pervert. I know an innocent guy serving 10 yrs on a false claim. The woman in the apartment above had a disagreement with his wife (letting her dog poop on their patio) and...

Fast 'N Loud lied about 2 Firebird prototypes

Some car shows where they appear to do practical fixes and it appears like real work for real customers are Car Fix and All Girls Garage, both in the same Tampa, FL studio and Wheeler Dealers (England). The Tampa shows get heavy on product marketing, but usually in spurts that I can skip on the...

    Ford Offers New Deuce Coupes

If it was in a Beach Boys song or a movie (American Graffiti, Vanishing Point, F&F, ...), it is automatically a popular car, so you must pay to play.

    Graveyard Carz Coming Back

I don't mind the snide jokes, it is the obviously phony drama that makes the show tedious to watch and takes time from showing real car work. I can't believe "Master of Mopar" Mark, who claims to have worked on cars since age 12 yrs, said he always thought an LCA bolt pivoted in the K-frame as...

Discount Tire just lost my business

I'll continue Charlie's rant, though Discount Tire (was America's Tire here) has always done me right. In my case, Goodyear in Atlanta spun a stud on my 69 Dart and didn't tell me, just re-installed the wheel like that. I found out when the tread separated on the highway and I couldn't take...

Discount Tire just lost my business

I used to buy used tires, figuring it would get me by until I could get a matched set of 4. I stopped after 2 used tires blew up while driving 65 mph, a week apart, a few years ago. I had bought them the same time from a local shop. Both blew out the sidewalls and looked like someone had made...

    Counting Cars Danny

I'd rather meet Mike and Ed, the two Brits on Wheeler Dealers. They seem like genuine good guys. I also like the 2 guys on Velocity with the big white dog. They do practical restos, without opening many free boxes from high-dollar vendors. Don't say where they are, but sure looks like north...

Became a dad for the first time!!!

Congrats. We had our 3rd one when I was 44, after a long gap. I thought we would look like grandparents at the PTA meetings, but was surprised how many people looked older. Maybe they were grands or maybe they start families later here in CA. After all, best to wait until you have a house...

    Mechanical Engineering students!

I could have answered "yes" to "ME student?" 36 yrs ago, USF Tampa, but we had no internet then. ME's tend to appreciate old Mopars.

I think I got ripped off

Shipping can lead to confusing situations. I bought a thermal clutch w/ fan on ebay from a guy in Hawaii. Tracking showed it get to Richmond, CA, then returned to him. I assumed the shipper returned it because of bad packaging, but for some reason he blamed me. I had him ship just the fan to...

    WTH is with people

Dang kids. Last weekend they smashed the mirror of my son's car parked on the street in SF. We need another war to send them off to expend their hormones, or else castrate the varmints.

Stopped driving the Valiant just in time

Totaling it isn't all bad. My 65 Newport has been totalled 3 times. I just negotiate ~$500 off the total price to keep the car, then fix it myself for much less than they pay. No guilt that the insurance's body shop quoted "can't fix". They have even done that when the damage was a single...

Small rant What does Running motor mean to people these days

You can get a good slant engine for almost nothing. Price goes up fast with displacement. Best if they can run the engine before you buy it. You can run an engine for a short time on the ground. Problem is all our Mopar engines need a tranny attached to mount the starter. You can turn it over...

    Remember to Vote today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First year I mailed in, at the cost of 2 stamps. Precinct is right across the street, but if you vote after work in CA in a Presidential election the winner was usually called already. Still, many significant state propositions on the CA ballot. I usually vote "no" to all, since mostly...

    Craigslist idiots rant

I have gotten some good stuff on craigslist. It is good for large items locally that are costly to ship. In my experience, people first ask high prices on craigslist, since free, and hope for a big score. Ex, I saw my 65 Dart on craigslist at $2500 then $1800, claiming "fresh paint, ready to...

69 cuda grille moron on ebay

Looks like a pretty fair price. Custom-made stuff is always cool to me. Any moron can buy their way out of a problem. They keep OPG and Year One going, and usually own Chevys. Seems like the lister's response was sensitive to your feelings. He could have escalated.

    Fuel mileage and related discussion

I haven't driven my 273 enough yet to measure mpg, but daily drove my 65 Newport 4 dr w/ 383 for years. I got 18 mpg hwy, 13 mpg city. That is with Crane XR700 ignition and Holley Pro-jection TBI w/ O2 sensor. Don't know the gearing, but the motor seems to turn slow at 65 mph (no tach). That...

    Non-Mopar Mechanical Issue / Question?

Ditto on the IAC (Inlet Air Control) servo-valve. It controls the idle speed, by controlling the idle air. The throttle plate closes tight and the IAC bypasses air around the throttle. Common problem. I would remove it and clean the seat and pintle well. May not even need a new gasket.

    TV car shows

I like all the car rebuild shows. Less so the high-dollar ones with donated after-market parts and installation team, where every car must be Foosified with a giant crate engine and custom wheels. My favorite is Wheeler Dealers, which seems the most genuine, tackles a wide variety of models...

Fast and Loud Thinks Shelby Dakota is basically worthless???

I watched a few times, but seems they aim too high on their builds, and the ambience of talking with gangsta hands, tattoos, and ZZ Top beard turns me off. My favorite "fixin cars" show is Wheeler Dealers. They seem most authentic in showing the real effort behind the work, and the British...
