Do Schumacher slant six to 340 motor mounts raise engine?

I didn't read thru the complete thread, But: The "spitfire" headers that layson sells you need to specify factory mounts or Schumacher mounts. The headers are different. Also on the 66 down "A" bodies Schumacher brackets allow use of the 6 cyl drag link where the factory brackets require the use...

Be careful putting these engines together

My Z/SA 170 slant six picked up 20 horsepower by installing the pistons backwards.

Be careful putting these engines together

One of my early 170 slant six builds. After 2 years of racing, took the engine apart and had valve marks just like that. 12 of them. It's called positive valve closing :)

What ever happened to angle milling cylinder heads?

Yes it has been done on a slant. Not me, but a slant racer I know did (I think) .100 on the manifold side, and .200 on the spark plug side.

Lost all oil and oil pressure while driving (Need help diagnosing)

I agree with the possibility of two gaskets. But I would just go ahead and install a new filter, since it will be off, anyway, and could have a defect. PS: I don't like Fram filters (looks like that is in the photo) Not the best, and I have found some with holes almost rusted through on the can.

    ID this crank pulley?

Mapco made pulleys for many of the after market AC companies, and not just for Mopars. I doubt that pulley is for a slant six. All of the aftermarket AC pulleys for the slant, that I have seen, are a single shive cast pulley that bolts to the front of the damper. The factory AC pulley bolted to...

    1986 police engine

It's only been about three days. Not everyone checks in every day. There are some sites I check only about once a week, and some very occasionally. Others several time a day (like FABO, and slantsix.org). But Even those sites might get missed for several days, due to traveling, or other reasons.

    1986 police engine

When using the 360 heads on a 318, doesn't that drop the CR due to the larger combustion chamber? Or do those heads have smaller chambers? I have 2 1988 318 engines that are complete. One is totally unmolested except for removal of the lean burn, converted to the HEI system. Bought new, and used...

Cam degreeing. I totally don't understand.

I installed a cam dot to dot, and then checked the cam timing. It was off by more than 10 degrees (I don't remember how much but a 10 degree bushing would not correct it) from the grinders intake centerline. Had to "jump" the timing sprocket one tooth, and then bring the timing back with a...

    CYLINDER MACHINING QUESTION

I'm not arguing against honning per se. Just don't agree with trying to hone several thousanths. Most of my engines are stock bore 100,000 engine, with a hone and re ring, and a plain cast ring. They don't push oil, and make good power, both with nitrous and/or turbo. But will they last 50-60...

    CYLINDER MACHINING QUESTION

I disagree. I do a lot of budget rebuilds, without reboring, just honing. A hone is not for enlarging the cyl bore, it is for putting the proper finish on the bore. A hone is not designed to remove thousandths of an inch, but less than one thousandth. If you want to do it right, bore and new...

    Edelbrock 2.055 (30 degree back-cut) testing

I'm referring to a standard old school basic stock valve job. The only way to get the correct seat width, is with a 3 angle (or more) cut.

    Edelbrock 2.055 (30 degree back-cut) testing

I always thought (and I used)_that any "good" valve job had 30/45/60 degree cuts on the seat, and 45/30 on the valve, to get the proper seat width. I have done a couple of heads for street engines, that I used 30 degree seats, that seemed (butt dyno) to help low end torque, and economy. Caveat...

    Buy this 273?

I'm not totally sure, but. Trans looks like a 727. If that is the case, and the engine is a 1967, you might have an issue using that trans with that engine. Slant six and small blocks had a smaller diameter crank pocket untill 1968, when the pocket was made larger. All 727 trans had converters...

    LA318 question

No, I removed the "lean burn". Had 3 computers go bad. The vacuum advance circuitry would not function. Never stopped the engine, but you could tell it was bad, as the fuel mileage would take a nosedive. Used an early SB distributor, and 2 bbl carb. Rejetted the carb with the help of an AFM...

    LA318 question

Nope, don't plan on doing anything to the engine. Just curious. Don't use the car too much around town as the fuel milage isn't that good. But on the highway I get about 24mpg at 75 mph. Modified curve in the distributor, and lockup converter work in those conditions. Car only has about 155,000...

    LA318 question

It is in my 88 Diplomat. Car is one of our daily drivers. Own 9 vehicles (4insured and registered) and the only newer vehicle we own is a 2011 Fusion, and we use the Dippy more (like it better). The other two road drivers are a 64 Valiant, and 88 D-150.

    LA318 question

Sorry, not going to happen. Would have to move a bunch of "stuff" out of the way, then clean off what is left of a 34 year old gasket. Put it back together with a poor-quality Chinese made gasket and have a leak. I have to many other/better things to do. But I thank everyone for their time.

    LA318 question

My 88 teener has a 2 bbl carb from the factory not TB injection. This is one reason I'm asking the question about the valve train. Even the factory parts books list both the roller lifters, and/or flat hydraulic lifters as being in the 318. The dealer can't tell me which it has, even with the...

    LA318 question

Reading some threads about 318 engines (LA & Magnum). I was wondering if there is a way to determine if a LA engine is flat tappet, or roller lifter, without taking anything major apart. I have a 1988 Diplomat, that I bought new in '88. Engine has never been opened up. Only thigs done to engine...

No one in my family is interested in cars. I told a fellow mopar friend, when I die, anything automotive, I have left (parts, tools, equipment, etc) is his, with these conditions. 1)Try to sell what he can (in his discrection of a reasonable time frame) and give the money to my wife, if she is...
