    whats the smoke coming from?

i jacked up the rear end, but did not check to see if the wheel moves freely. i'll check that today. I have a lot more time today to work on the Dart, so i'll be looking more in death now. preying it's not the rear end thats bad.

    whats the smoke coming from?

i'll check all of those items guys. I have checked multiple times for rubbing from the wheel itself onto another part of the fender well. I don't see any leaks from the transmission that would be spraying onto the other car parts and smoking. whats weird to me is that the smoke is coming from...

    whats the smoke coming from?

another new symptom is that the car is lagging on take off when i put it in gear...drive or reverse. in other words, the car needs a little feathering of the throttle pedal to get going. maybe a bad axel? i don't see any rubbing from my tires in the wheel well. i have stock 15" chrysler...

7 1/4 to 8 3/4 rear end swap info needed

i should've been more specific. generally $800 will buy a non rebuilt rear end, possibly needing some break work. $1200 range will normally buy a rebuilt rear end with or without a sure grip and rebuilt breaks….. what o you think about those prices? i can always rebuilt the breaks...

7 1/4 to 8 3/4 rear end swap info needed

sounds good. I'm trying to tally up all the costs other than the obvious 8.75 rear end. what do you guys think is fair market value for a rebuilt 8.75 A-body rear end with sure grip already in it and rebuilt drum breaks? I'm sure prices vary depending on where you live and the supply and...

7 1/4 to 8 3/4 rear end swap info needed

do you remember how much exactly you had to shorten your driveshaft? i have a great drivshaft mechanic that is cheap and will shorten my drievshaft like he did when i swapped from /6 to 318/727. when i was in the process of doing that swap, someone on faro told me the exact length to cut my...

7 1/4 to 8 3/4 rear end swap info needed

I am considering switching over to an 8 3/4 rear end in the near future. First, i want to make an informed decision. i have a '71 dodge dart with a 318/727/7.25 rear end setup. I want to know if i will have to swap out my rear wheels when I do this conversion to 8.75 rear end? the reason i...

Please post pic of your kick down linkage....

Nice setups guys! I see that most of you are not mixing and matching cable and stock linkages.....? Hmmmm. I guess ill either have to buy a lobar throttle linkage setup, or put back my old kick down linkage..... What do you guys think?

Please post pic of your kick down linkage....

I have a lokar style kick down linkage and bracket but I was really wondering if I could run that cable driven kick down with a stock throttle cable? I guess I can always go buy a lokar throttle cable also but was wondering if the two can be mixed and matched?

Hi guys, Can you please post pics of your kick down linkage setup both at the carburetor side as well as the transmission side? I have a 318/727/7.25 drivetrain in a 71 dart. I am in the process of putting back my stock throttle linkage with an aftermarket kick down(cable) linkage. Will this...

    727 transmission lines...

By snug I mean that the wire harness is too small and even if I use all my strngth to try to push it on, it will not budge. It appears to have the 3 prongs just as the switch does, however the switch on the transmission is definitely a little bigger. I dot think it is a huge difference like...

    727 transmission lines...

The engine and transmission are both out of the same '89 dodge van. Is that why the switch doesn't fit? It is a little too small. Unless I hammer it on, I don't believe it will fit.... Not sure what to do now, but at least I know why it is not starting. Any ideas?

    727 transmission lines...

I am hooking up my 727 transmission lines and aftermarket kick down linkage. First, does it matter which transmission line links to the radiator fittings? Or is it a single direction system with a specific direction for the cooling of ATF? Secondly, where do mount the kick down linkage to...

    What can a 7 1/4 rear take???

Well I have some really nice five spoke wheels and low profile tires on my current setup. I will definitely keep the 8.8 in mind, but I am not ready to go that route yet. If I can't find a mopar rear end at that point, I'll look for the 8.8. Very good info for me guys thanks for the help!

    What can a 7 1/4 rear take???

I see. After reading the 8.8 sticky thread, I think I would need a lot of help to accomplish that modification. Probably not for me. Ill just stick with my 7.25 until it blows or I find another alternative.

    What can a 7 1/4 rear take???

I have a stupid question. Could I put 323 gears into a 7.25 rear? What makes the gears compatable or incomparable?

    What can a 7 1/4 rear take???

Dang! A lot of folks sure have tested these little rears. That's crazy that some people blow the rear right away and others can beat the for a while and not break em. I guess it's luck of the draw. I know a local guy who sells the 7.25 and 8.25 rears for about $200 so worst case scenario I...

    What can a 7 1/4 rear take???

Wow a 440 on a 7 1/4? That must have been hard not to blow that rear end out for that year. That gives me more hope for my little 7.25. Like I said, I am not going to race or hot rod the car. I just want a nice driver that will last the test of time. Maybe down the road ill look for an...
