    Low engine temps

New 7 blade water pump I believe, I'll have to double check. It's the AC version for the 318. I do see flow across the top of the radiator when it's warmed up. Yep, I know, I am surprised as well that it's running cold instead of running hot, and when the son is back over spring break we'll...

    Low engine temps

The thermostat is a 195, thought maybe it was stuck open so replaced it. Running a 50/50 mix on the antifreeze. The engine specs are a 318, stock bore, 5.2 magnum heads, comp 256 cam, air gap manifold and holley 4160 carb. The radiator is a 26" from I think an 87 Diplomat with a 7 blade fan on a...

    First startup issues

Yep, I'll definitely be double checking everything next time! I can't wait to finish this enough to deliver to my son at Iowa State, hopefully in a couple of weeks. It's been a long 10 months of working on it. Got it as a roller and we built the engine and have everything for the interior...

    First startup issues

Thanks for all the help! It was the oil galley plug, and could have sworn that it was put in originally. Think it's time for me to stop working on cars, getting old and senile and slow. Took 12 hours to pull the engine and put it back in, but getting oil to the rockers and have 65-70 pounds of...

    First startup issues

Thanks for the suggestions, got the timing sorted out where I confirmed top dead center on #1 feeling the compression on the spark plug hole, the timing mark was lined up at about 2 degrees on the timing cover, pulled all the spark plug wires and put them on starting with 1 where the rotor was...

Any ideas about the oil pressure?

    First startup issues

Thanks, I'll pull the cam gear and try that. The harmonic balancer and timing cover are the ones that came with the engine. Whether they are correct and were on there before, I can't answer for sure. Thanks, Scott

    First startup issues

Started up the 318 in the son's 70 Duster tonight, and doesn't sound right. Here are the details 1974 318 - stock bore, just honed since bore, round, and taper were within specs, crank ground and polished, .010 undersize on mains and rods, deck squared but minimal taken off, maybe .005 KB...

What does anyone think of these intakes?

Yep, I know it's a lot cheaper on things for my 71 C10 truck than for the Duster. I agree that the outside casting isn't as nicely finished as my Edelbrock on my truck, but the runners looked smooth inside, and the gasket surfaces were flat and sealed okay. Would I buy something half the price...

What does anyone think of these intakes?

Put one of these on the son's 70 Duster project on a 318 with magnum heads. The fit was good, the only issue is the holes for the vertical magnum are drilled for 3/8" instead of 5/16" so before you torque things down make sure it's aligned since you can easily be off. Still waiting to get...

    318 motor mounts

About the only way I know of is to take the brackets off the engine, then you can get a deep socket on that top nut. You might be able to get a 3/8's socket over the nut with the brackets on.

    Anyone try these distributors?

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'll order one and see how it runs. It won't be anything but a driver, so even if it doesn't allow the full potential of the motor, it's better than nothing at this point since the budget for the Duster is pretty much depleted. I'll let you know my opinion of...

    Anyone try these distributors?

Need a distributor to finish the engine and power up the son's duster, and was just curious if anyone had used one of the self contained HEI ones like this...

    KB167 questions

thanks, I thought they would come, guess it's just too late after a long day. Guess what I needed was in big red letters on their site saying Comes with Pins!!! :) Now just need to find some relatively inexpensive 5.2 heads to slap on.

    KB167 questions

Going to order a set of KB167 to start building my sons engine for his Duster, and was curious if they come with wrist pins or if I have to order those separately? If I need to order them, can anyone confirm the length? I think the .984 X 2.750 will work, but having a hard time finding those in...
