Throttle cable/kickdown and linkage after installing 4bbl on 318?

I just made a throttle cable bracket out of some flat bar and extended the kickdown shaft thing with some round bar.

    340 marine motor?? differances?

I recall someone telling me that some v8s used in boats run backwards. I don't know if that was someone pulling my leg or not though. Don't even remember where I heard it. Edit: nevermind. Apparently it is true and I was beat to the punch. haha

    de rusting

Some folks warn about hydrogen embrittlement from electrolosis. I've never had a problem and have yet to find anything supporting the claim in practice. Though, I've never done an engine block. Even if it is true though, it would only effect the outer-most mm or so of iron. The process works...

    Backfire from 360

I always thought it would be the other way around. Too far advanced and it ignites while the intake valve is still open, too far retarded and combustion happens after the exhause valve has opened. I was never taught this though, just sort of how I always figured it. Why is it the other way around?

She's alive!! (Try and guess what was wrong...)

So a while back I posted a thread after finding that my newly rebuilt 318 wasn't getting oil to the heads. I was damn near lightin the whole thing on fire I was so frustrated. A lot of you guys chimed in to help me through the trouble-shooting process. Well, after getting a priming shaft, I...

Which way to I turn the oil pump priming shaft?

Thanks. That's what I thought but I wanted to be certain. :)

Which way to I turn the oil pump priming shaft?

318 LA Pretty sure I've got it right, but I want to be certain.

    No oil in pass. head?

Alright, I'm going to borrow a mechanical oil gauge from a buddy tonight and make a oil pump shaft to use with a drill. Hopefully I'll have a bit more info tomorrow.

    No oil in pass. head?

Alright, all plugs are present and accounted for.

    No oil in pass. head?

How long should it take oil to squirt from the feed holes while cranking?

    No oil in pass. head?

I'm pretty sure it's an LA block. Where should I check to find the year?

    No oil in pass. head?

I've only got the stock idiot light. There is a little oil pooled at the back of the head and some in the oil passage deally as well as the rear-most rocker-shaft bolt hole. And there was a little oil on the two rear most rockers. I guess "a little bit of oil" doesn't really count for much, huh?

    No oil in pass. head?

Alright, So I got the passenger side rocker shaft off. It looks like oil is getting up there. Maybe just not very much? Low oil pressure maybe? I figure next thing to do is to check the rocker shaft for obstructions? I don't know how it could be obstructed, but it's the top of the system and...

    No oil in pass. head?

Yep. Front bottom on driver side and rear bottom on passenger side.

    No oil in pass. head?

Oh, the rocker shafts! I'll check real quick.

    No oil in pass. head?

I didn't build this motor. But I'll ask.
  20. Corrupt_Reverend

    No oil in pass. head?

Yes, a process!! I'm on it. :) Also, I know it's at least pumping oil through the filter.
  21. Corrupt_Reverend

    No oil in pass. head?

It's just how I've been taught/always done it. Never had any problems before. It's a pretty common method.

    No oil in pass. head?

Fired up the new motor yesterday for the first time. Fired on the first crank! But it got kinda noisy so I shut it off. This morning, I pulled the valve covers and it looks like the passenger side head isn't getting any oil past the rear two rockers. Save for the rear rockers, everything is...

Spewing coolant from a water pump hole?

Actually no. Timing cover was on the motor. I swapped water pumps and just somehow didn't notice this guy missing. At least brand new gaskets are easy to remove...

Spewing coolant from a water pump hole?

... It that a thing that can happen from not having this bolt in? :banghead:

Spewing coolant from a water pump hole?

Damnitall. I am retarded. It's a timing cover bolt for sure. Big thanks to OklaCarCollector for the picture. Seeing that made it "click" in my head. Guess I gotta get pulling stuff back off... :(

Spewing coolant from a water pump hole?

it's a small block 318. And now that I went back out there, I'm thinking it might be a timing cover bolt. Would coolant come out of the timing cover bolt hole that's kind of below/to the side of the fuel pump?

Spewing coolant from a water pump hole?

There is seriously no way to get a bolt in there. Even if I pulled the water pump and set it on the bench. The casting just won't seem to allow it. The only thing I can think of is maybe it should have had a stud? But I really don't remember a stud in the old engine. This has got me stumped.
