    318 Oil Capacity

1968 stock 318 in a Barracuda. FSM says ALL Plymouth motors except 426 have an oil capacity of 4 quarts. Dipstick has 4 qts just touching the bottom of the full marked section. Of course this includes whatever is in the filter. I always thought that these v8's took 5 qts. With 5 qts...

    Such a head as a '71 360 T/A?

I've got this old Mopar dude down the street that wants to do me a big favor for my '68 Fish with a mildly built 318. He says he'll sell me a 1971 "one year only" set of T/A heads off a 360 for $100. This is complete with valves, springs, rockers, etc. He says they have 1.88/1.60 valves. I...

Just bought a old motor..couple questions...

I just picked up a 318 motor and tranny to eventually build and transplant into my '68 Barracuda. My car has a nice 318 with a mild build on it in there right now that works perfect. Thing is, it's a motor from the mid '70's. Don't know why, just know I want a 1968 motor in my 1968 'cuda...

    Tach/Analyzer and Pertronix ignition

I think it might have had something happen to it in its previous life. The amp and alt functions don't work either! Fork! I Really liked this one. Least I can get my shekels back. Got any recommendations for another quality analyzer?

    Tach/Analyzer and Pertronix ignition

OK, I re-checked the Sun (bought it in '80, no model #, see pic). It works just fine. I didn't have a very good ground. I had it running side by side with the Sears and the Sears reads exactly half what the Sun says. I put 'em both on a '81 Corolla too. Same story. The Sun and the...

    Tach/Analyzer and Pertronix ignition

According to the manual, you can put the inductive pickup on any plug wire facing any direction. I've tried all possibilities with no better results. In tach mode, power is supplied from the vehicles battery - I know I hooked that up right:) The # of cylinder selector is only used in...

    Tach/Analyzer and Pertronix ignition

Hey guys, I've been trying to find an "older school" tach/engine analyzer to use on the 318 in my 68 Barracuda. Every one I've found and tried so far won't work quit right. I just got this mint Craftsman analyer that will even tell you the amps the alt puts out - see pic - When used as a tach...

    Good head?

I saw a set of heads for sale locally with a casting number of 3671587. I'm confused because this number is listed as for a 1973 360 w/air pump; 1973 340; 1974 360. They are listed as having bigger valves than the stock 318 heads in my Barracuda, so I'm thinking these might be a nice upgrade...

I have a need to read the marks on the pass side as well. My balancer/dampener has marks every 90 degrees. I'm hoping this is for use on either side. Anybody know for sure?

    Lining Dizzy up with #1

318 in a 68 cuda. Previous owner put dizzy in with #1 off to the driver's side. I want to put it back where it is supposed to be - pointing nearly straight ahead. How do I turn the drive slot/gear in the motor so i can put the dizzy back in where I want it. tried sticking a big screwdriver...

    Compression ratio correct??

hi all, I've got a 68 barracuda with a stockish 318 in it. I was reading through an old repair book ("Motor's Auto Repair manual - 1972") with a pretty good Mopar data section and came across some compression numbers which I'm questioning. The book says 1968 and 1969 318's have 9.2:1...

As they are so similar, is this procedure identical for a 68 Barracuda with a 318?

    Timing Puzzler

It appears to be the original all stock dizzy-no added on vacuum crap. I am (in the next few days) going to be dropping in the Pertronix electronic ignition kit. Everything in this kit goes under the cap - so no box to deal with. All it really does is replace the points with a Hall effect...

    Timing Puzzler

New to Mopars but have been wrenching on Fords/Old School Toyotas for many years. Just got a mostly stock 68 Barracuda with a 318 and wanted to check the timing. The book says I should set it at 2 and a half degrees AFTER TDC. Can this be right??? For my budddy's 71 Dart with a 318 the same...
