I got uncoated ones for my dart, I painted them using high temp paint. They've been on the car for two years now and they still look like I painted them.

Cheap headers are only good because they don't cost much, but that's it. I've put in cheap headers and it's the most painful thing in the world lol. I just bit the bullet and got some dougs headers, a lot more expensive, but they fit really nice and didn't require a hammer lol.

Wouldn't that cause an exhaust leak and also make it sound odd? Dont know much about this so somebody should chime in that knows more though.

Remflex gaskets are the way to go. I always had leaks till I installed them.

I have a set of dougs in my 73 dart with a 360 and they fit perfectly! Dont sit low and they dont hit anything when installed.

My 360 had dougs headers with true dual 2.5 through flowmaster 40s (I think, it came with the car) and out the back. There wasn't anything special about it but I LOVED how it sounded. I would have random people open up their windows at a light and they would tell me they loved how it sounded...

Dougs headers, fit good and dont sit low to the ground.

My dart used to have manifolds with dual 2.5 exhaust through flowmaster 40s, sounded real nice. Used the same exhaust for the new motor, get many compliments on how it sounds.

It fit around my power steering no problem, shaft and all, but it is very tight, you also have to make sure the starter wires aren't touching the header tubes. One issue that I had to address was my trans cooler lines ran close to the headers, but you wont have that problem becuase its a 4...

They worked for me for a bit, but eventually one burnt out, so I just put in a remflex gasket and havent had a single leak since.

I just had this issue, and it was leaking so bad it sounded like a lifter tick. Get some remflex gaskets! No sealers or anything. I put them on and no leaks, been driving with them for a few hundred miles now without a leak.

No kidding, hope I don't have to take them out any time soon! It's amazing how many weird noises leaky headers can make!

Well I ended up pulling out the old heli coil and putting in a new one, put the gasket on and torqued everything up, no issues. Started it up and no leaks! Sounds really good, thanks!

I will get a thread chaser to clean up the threads, I think I can clean them, they aren't that bad I don't think. And being that they are already heli-coiled what would the next thing I can do be if the thread chaser doesn't work. And that's good to know that I can use the gasket again.

I do have some longer ones, I think that's why it stripped, they were too short with the thicker gasket so they didn't have enough thread on that hole for whatever reason. I looked in the hole and the threads are still good further in. I have eddy aluminum heads.

Also can I use the gasket again? I never got it fully torqued down, but there are some impressions in it. It is still in one piece, and not damaged.

Well bad news...I got one header on and all torqued up, but the other one stripped a bolt hole :/ the bolt is out and the header is off, what should I do about that? It just the first little bit of the hole, not the whole thing. Tap it to clean up the threads? It said to torque them to 20 foot...

Well good news, I went to another local parts place and they only carry fel-pro and remflex header gaskets. So of course I bought the remflex ones, not cheap for gaskets but I can see that they are pretty good gaskets, even the guy at the counter said that I won't have any leaks and that some...

I am going to buy a set of Remflex gaskets, I think I can buy them locally, if not I may just use the percey header gaskets that I have currently. So the remflex ones need no sealer? what about the percey ones if I can't find the remflex ones locally and have to order them? I took the old...

Ill give everything a snug while I'm at it. And I've only tightened them when it was cold, could be a reason that they keep leaking on occasion. I would think that the dougs headers would seal really well, I guess you just need the right gasket.

Well I guess I didn't do much to prevent a leak in the first place. I got some new gaskets and I will replace them tonight, and I will torque them. So from what I understand headers commonly leak?

Probably my issue then, I tightened them once at about 400 miles when they originally began leaking...probably hurt my gasket a bit, I guess I have to be more diligent with keeping them tight.

Oddly enough its my number 1 cylinder as well, when I first noticed the leak I could see there was a separation, and the bolts were almost to the point I could turn them by hand. And I never actually torqued them, I just tightened them by hand with a wrench, so some may be tighter than others...

Yup I have a comp XE cam in it, and that was a noise that drove me crazy too! And this morning I grabbed a big screw driver and put my ear to it on all the valve covers, consistent sewing machine noise everywhere, then I put it on the header and could hear the whooshing noise in addition to...

Just to make sure though, is it normal for some header leaks to go away as the engine warms up? What would signify a lifter tic? And if it was a lifter tic would it go away as It warmed up? New motor so every little noise worries me...

They were just the ones that came with an engine gasket kit that I had, I can't imagine that they are terribly good ones, probably the lower end ones. Definitely not ultra seal ones. And the only reason that I put the copper RTV on was because that's what the instructions said with the headers...
