    74 Duster window regulator

I am planning to swap in some new used window regulators to my Duster. The windows are a bit clunky going up, and not as bad going down. Any tips on what to do to these regulators before they go in? I bought them from a member who has sold me parts before and I trust him when he says they...

Looking for advice on paint repair

Thanks for the great advice. I will use the torn end of the match stick to get color on the showing primer on the spot up front and use the compound the next day. I also got some red pigmented wax to shine up the spots (the one on the rear wheel lip cleaned up pretty good with compound) until...

Looking for advice on paint repair

Compound on the back fender may work. I was going to tape the front spot off about 1/8" past the damage and sand with 1000 then apply base with a nail polish brush, sand again with 1000 the brush on the same clear then sand and polish. I certainly wont make the bruise larger. On the other hand...

Looking for advice on paint repair

Looking for some advice and guidance to repair these two bruises my son inflicted on the car in a spin out that caused him and the car to come to rest up against an old fence. The car was painted with PPG Omni about 5 years ago and kept garaged and covered when not in use. I have the base coat...

    74 Duster: location for horns

I have been working on my Duster project for almost 8 years now. One of the first things I removed were the horns. The car is mostly complete but now I’m looking down behind the grille scratching my head trying to remember how the bracket and the horns go together. Anybody have a picture how...

    adhesive?

Put the stainless trim on my 74 Duster this past week. It fit pretty nice. The corner pictured below keeps wanting to shift toward the outside of the car and ride up over the sheet metal. Only thing I think I can do is to use a couple dabs of adhesive under it to keep it in place. Wondering what...

    Stainless window trim fits poorly

I think the gaskets are a tad smaller in profile and the clips are a bit too big. Don’t let it get to you. I’m going to take mine off and experiment with different clips here and there....

    Stainless window trim fits poorly

Some of the clips can be moved slightly, and it looks as if I may be able to swap out most of them with the glass in. As you can see in this pic, the screws included are not stainless steel and they are more of a rounded head than the originals. Going to get a trim removal tool, an assortment...

    Stainless window trim fits poorly

Yes the Center clips on the bottom are slightly larger. But the fitment issues are in the corners and the fact that the trim does not fit tight to the gasket

    Stainless window trim fits poorly

i have been avoiding this for months. I have a decent st of windshield trim and I tried snapping it in an the fit is so shocking bad a had to walk away from it for the night. I need to now find the proper removal Tool and try to figure what the hell is happening. New clips and glad gasket from...

    seam seal behind drip rail

Has anyone ever used urethane seam filler in a caulk cartridge to replace/repair behind the drip rail? I have seen a few posts here where brush-able sealer has been used, but being a carpenter by trade I think I'd get better results with the caulk gun method.

Body panel spacing. How big is too big?

The previous owner did the hinges (saw the plastic bags the pins came in, they were in the box of **** he left in the trunk)and we hung the doors with the old weather stripping then pulled it off for paint.

Body panel spacing. How big is too big?

I'll slide the fenders up and out a bit Don't have any weather stripping on anything but I think my allowance is ok No shims at all on the passenger door and only a angle 20 gauge sheet metal shim on the bottom hinge of the drivers door

Body panel spacing. How big is too big?

This is what I have with me now. Another thing is the long gap hood to fender is good and the everthing is straight, however the the hood is sticks out past the fender by 1/8 on the passenger side. I'm thinking I will just go with a slightly wider gap on both ends of the passenger door and...

Body panel spacing. How big is too big?

OK, so to test fit the Frankenstein parts for my 74 Duster project I set the doors with decent 3/16-1/4 in gaps. The fenders have similar decent gaps to the doors. Sorry for the poor quality pics and everything being different colors and just roughed in. First pic shows the door to fender...

Where should I start the body back together?

Well, I have an ace in the hole old school body man who is going to do the skins on weekends at my place. That's what he suggests and I happen to have seen a few how to quarter panel skin replacement videos and that method was prescribed. On top of that, I have been working on this car for a...

Where should I start the body back together?

Im not wrapping to skin into the door jamb. Most anyone I ask say not to do it. 2 inches of the old quarter is there so the skin can butt to it.

Where should I start the body back together?

OK, I have replaced the floors and have done all of the rust repairs in the panels as well as prime and coat the backside of everything. Where should I begin re assembling the body? I have new quarter skins that will go on last, as we are not having them wrap into the door jamb but rather...

Eliminate rear bumper rubber filler on a 74 Duster

I guess I'm super sensitive when I hear that the 73-74 cars are not as desirable. I'm all for things like eliminating the rubber rear bumper filler, heck I started this thread to ask how to do it. What I was saying regarding the clone statement was more about saying " hay check out my cool 74...

Eliminate rear bumper rubber filler on a 74 Duster

I wouldn't be so quick to say that a hacked up 70-72 clone is more desirable than a nicely done '73 up car... Not sure I'd hange my bumper supports off sheet metal either...Just sayin.
