LS powered Duster, Abomination or Go For it!

Another reason I'd stay with the gen iii Hemi. It bolts to stuff I already own or have on hand. It would cost me more $$ to convert to Chevy stuff. I'd have to sell my Mopar parts off (probably at a loss) and start over. I have no interest in doing so.

LS powered Duster, Abomination or Go For it!

The "cheap" thing I simply do not understand. They say budget LS but I keep seeing stuff like AFR or Trick flow heads that are over $2k a pair. Then they put twin turbos on them... I don't know whose budget they are talking about but I'm wondering if their place of employment is hiring... As...

LS powered Duster, Abomination or Go For it!

This!! The only advantage I see to the LS is that it has a large aftermarket. I don't see what is so cheap about it. Ls engines in my area are very expensive. Simply not worth the effort or headache in my opinion. If you took away it's large aftermarket, what would be the appeal to the engine...

LS powered Duster, Abomination or Go For it!

Oh man, I wished I could like this post more than once!! In my opinion. ...which is worth what I'm paid for it $0.00...is that it is their car and their $$ and I'm not going to tell anybody how to build what they want. It's hard for me to put down somebody's time and effort. With that said...

Torque converters: Quality ,for the buck.....

Spend the money on a good one. The converter and camshaft are the two things that I think about and purchase first. I'd go with an Edge or PTC. A couple of the guys I slant race with use them and have seriously fast slant sixes. When you don't have the cubic inches, you make the best power with...

    Uneducated, would YOU buy?

To much. I can get a B body 8.75 here for $200 or less without hassle. Nothing wrong with a Ford "8 or "9 if you are on a budget. The 8.25 is still a decent rear as well if you aren't pushing crazy hp/tq levels.

whats up with the 2.45 8 1/4 housing?

The 2.45 sure grip units will only work with the 2.45 ring and pinion.

    What tranny for a 318?

904 is the answer. A 727 takes close to 50hp to turn while a 904 is around 25hp to turn. 904 also weighs less. The 904 can be built to handle almost anything you can throw at it. A local racer dropped 3 tenths in a change from a 727 to a 904. I even once sold a 727 to a guy that was from...

    Sure grip questions

This means that the 2.45 gears take a specific housing and carrier. You can't really swap another set of gears into it. You would need a 2.71 housing and carrier to swap the gears out later. The 2.71 housing and carrier will accept numerically higher gear sets.

    TCI 904 Sizzler ?????

I'd go with a converter from Edge or PTC.

    Which driveshaft?? (Dart/Scamp)

I'm thinking that an m body driveshaft may work. One with a 904/8.25 rear..

    Which driveshaft?? (Dart/Scamp)

Yea..what car do you have?? I swapped a '69 B'cuda for a '71 Scamp and found out there was a difference in wheelbases between the two. Had no idea really!

    Which driveshaft?? (Dart/Scamp)

I have a '71 Scamp with a 318 and 904. The rear is an 7.25. The current driveshaft is to short. Does anyone know the length or an application that would work? The rear will be swapped soon to an 8.25. I am guessing a '74/6 Dart with a 318/904/8.25 would obviously work- but there isn't any...

does it matter which way ?

Doesn't make alot of difference IMO. I've ran them either way with no problems. FYI, I grabbed a transcooler from a late 90's Grand Cherokee for a whopping $2 at a yard. These are way better than most of the flimsy aftermarket things at the parts store. Looks cool in the black with the Mopar...

    will a 904 /6 fit a small block?

The small block 904 is different from the /6 904. The internal parts can be interchanged but the guts from the /6 transmission are lighter duty. It is a common thing among /6 racers to swap v8 904 guts into a /6 904 case.

where to find 8.75 sure grip units used

Unless somebody has no idea what it is, you will probably NOT find one for $200. I'd get laughed at and told to go home for $200.

    Anybody use a b-body 8.75?

A friend done this on a '74 Duster. Moved the perches in a half inch and no problem..

    F-body 8.25 rear for duster?

Yes, I can't remember the specifics of it but it can be done. I think the F bodies used a different setup to mount the rear. My Scamp had an F body rear in it but it was not me that installed it.

where to find 8.75 sure grip units used

Tell me about it. If I ran a yard, I'd crush almost of all the newer stuff that came in. The local yard got in a '65 Valiant coupe with a 273 in it the other day. Sold some interior parts out of it and crushed it flat. They are stupid...

    Building my first 8.25 rear..

The extra axle is from a '78 Dodge truck. I think it might work?? I have heard the carriers won't fit into the 2.45 housing..I just don't know...

where to find 8.75 sure grip units used

That and it's almost hard to not find a SG in a 60's Dodge pickup.

    Building my first 8.25 rear..

The car I am putting the rear into has a rebuilt 904 with the low 1st gear. I have a truck rear with 3.55's laying around. I heard that another carrier will not fit into my housing because a 2.45 has a specific housing????

    Building my first 8.25 rear..

Really? it'd be that awful? even with the 2.94 low gear in the 904? My buddies Diplomat with 2.24 gears and some mods isn't that terrible IMO. Yes, it will flat out haul on the top end!!:prayer:

    Building my first 8.25 rear..

Would the 2.71 case fit into my 8.25 housing? I heard the case maybe different?? or is it the carrier only??

    Whats everyone running for gears?

Do you like the mini spool on the street?? I hear so many that tell me to not run a spool on the street??
  28. D

    Building my first 8.25 rear..

Nope..I don't have that. Thanks for mentioning... As far as the gear goes, It is all I have and it's all I can afford. I have no desire to leave the 7.25 in there.
