    slant 6 bore centers

Thank you. I was measuring across a steel head gasket from bore to bore, and by the time I got to the last cylinder, the bore spacing averaged out at about 4.010". I thought that might be wrong. That's why I asked.

Does anyone know the exact spacing bore-to-bore on a slant six?

    No Compression

I hate those gears. We were told they were made so the engine would run quieter. Actually they were made to cu cost. You don't have to machine the plastic gears. Were real trouble on fords.

    No Compression

I think stuck valves also. On my slant, there was a bit of fuel that dripped into the manifold and onto the valves. The gas got old and hard and froze the valves. I had to use a hammer to get them out even after I had pulled the head. One thing that will work to loosen them is model airplane...

I've watched you run on Youtube and talked to you some years ago when you were running twin turbos and a thermoquad. Hope my hemi Valiant runs as good as yours. Bill

    Turbo Hookup????????????

I am building a Desoto hemi for my 67 Valinat right now. I do have a 225 I'd like to play with later. Diamond Pistons makes some good slugs and also has chromoly H-beam rods for the 225 which would really make it bullet proof. The mains on the crank are as big as a 440 so it should work well...

    Turbo Hookup????????????

The slant we did was a 1972 model from California which had different emmission standards and was rated at only 105 HP. It was all stock at first witht he Buick turbo, but when the car was driven hard it would peg the temperature guage. One night when it happened we popped the hood to see that...

    Turbo Hookup????????????

Something I forgot to mention in my other post: the reason I suggested another cam is this. The car we put the Buick system on was a 72 Dart from California. It was rated at 105 HP. The top end on the car was 105 MPH. With the turbo on and running 7 PSI boost, the car would accelerate like...

    stalls on hard cornering

I had a 60 Dodge Seneca that did that too me all the time. Turns out the tightening bolt on the didtributor was loose. Everytime I turned to the left, it would somehow retard itself and then slowly turn back to where it belonged. Went nuts trying to figure it out since I also thought it was...

    Turbo Hookup????????????

We put a turbo on a slant 6 about 20 years ago. It was a draw-thru system from a 3.8 Buick. I made an adapter that bolted on to the 1-bbl intake and then the turbo compressor section bolted on to the adapter. Everything else remained stock and the car ran like crazy. Big drawback was that the...

Oil for a Slant Six that's been sitting a long time

You may want to get some oil with zinc additives. Check your local speed shop. I think Joe Gibbs brand is one of them. Our local Auto Zones sell high Zinc oil in some of the heavier weights. Zinc will protect the cam lobes from wearing out. Bill
