Yes it is true. Had the same thing happen to me, went to the shop and they showed me. The shop I went to make me 1 out of an old shaft they had there. It was less than $100 tatal though.

If it were me I would drain it, change fluid and filter. Then add new fluid.

It wont drain the fluid but will lose some from the hole. Are you replacing? If so I would suggest haveing the new one ready, as you get the old out the way put new one right on.

Welcome to the best site for our A-bodies. As far as the rear, look at the rear from the back of the car. If you see the bolts to remove the diff cover it's not an 8 3/4. there is a thread somewhere that has drawings of the different rears, I'll look for it. But this should get you started.

When it locked up did the engine RPM drop or stay up till you took foot off pedal? Maybe the rear spider gears stuck. and when it stoped loosened up again.

Is the cable you put on the car used? If so it may be dirty inside. If new then I would think the same as above, a kink or bend to sharp causing friction.

Sorry for the confusion. My /6 has an Offy intake with a Holley 4bbl on it. I can get the throttle to work but need to connect the kickdown so I can start driveing without fear of burning my tranny.

Not sure if there are the same. But when I swapped from a 7.25 to an 8.25 there were no difference in the yoke. So I just needed my shaft cut down to fit. Hope this helps.

Well, from what I have now is a 65 B-body 8 3/4. It will bolt up with a little help. the perch on the b bod is a little farther apart. but you can pull the springs in just a tad to get them to bolt up. Not sure how the side to side movement will be once you do that. I have not had mine on the...

I agree, get as many of them as you can. My tight a$$ would just take the axles and drums to a machine shop and have them drilled to the 4 1/2 bolt pattern. But if you intend to race or high HP, spend the money and get new axles for the rear.

with your wheel pushed out farther on an axle that is wider will cause your tire to hit the wheel lip and cut the tire. So your 8in wheel with 4.5 in backspace should work, you may need to trim your wheel lip just a little.

I think if you go cable, the kit comes with a bracket that bolts to the tranny somehow. Hot rodders use them all the time. Lokar (sp) i believe has them.

Also, not all 73 and up cars have 4.5 bolt pattern. I have a 71 Swinger with 4"BP disc up front. I found a 73 that has disc up front but they are still 4" BP. If your read is 4"BP i would just stick with that. Measure your studs and make sure you get the wheels for that size. Just my .02 Jeff
