I've always used Type 'F' in my cars' T-Flites . +4 (plus 4) trans fluid is , in my opinion , overkill in the old 3-speed auto's .

most-likely it's an A-904-LA . My '73 Duster 318 had a factory-upgrade A-727-A ( no 904's available when the car was being built , so a 727 was used instead ) . After nearly 40 years , it is possible that your Duster's got any variation of the 904 or 727 ; may be a 998 , 999 , 904 or 727 .

I agree completely with caferacerx ; the 8.25" rear is just fine . One of its advantages is that it's already got the big bolt-circle pattern ( or , at least , the majority of them do ... ) , so there's no need to wrestle with spending coin on buying new axles . Another often overlooked...

I'd advise against the use of the A-500 , especially when it's going behind a nice , torquey motor like a 360 . They have that beautiful lockup converter ( and , last time I checked , no one makes higher-stall converters for them ) ; and they were only available behind the 239 ( 3.9 Litre ) V6...
