318 HP Estimate (Yes I know....)

Well I doubt I'll ever go headers since they came be a real pain for maintenance. My co-workers are all into HP while I'm more interested in torque.

    I believe it's a 1974 casting.

318 HP Estimate (Yes I know....)

Guys I know posts such as this are being brought out constantly but I have to ask. I have a co-worker(s) who are into street machines/muscle and constantly ask me how much HP I think my setup is getting. So to just give me some kind of estimate can anyone give me some thoughts. I just tell...

    Rough Idle/Running

Nope but the car had been sitting for a long time while the motor was getting rebuilt. I say that because I'm talking a LONG time since my mechanic/friend did it on the side of his normal jobs.

    Rough Idle/Running

I never even thought of that. It's worth a look.

    Rough Idle/Running

I have the stock mechanical pump. It's actually getting worse so I may have to park the Dart in my barn and clean out the carb.

    Rough Idle/Running

Hey gentlemen my recently rebuilt 318 has been running great until about three hours ago. For some reason upon hot start up it coughed, stalled, and the proceeded to run rough for the next fifteen minutes I drove it. I smelled gasoline so I thought perhaps I flooded it. However, this car...

    Break In Procedures

Yea my friend broke it in before I picked it up. I guess the consensus is to drive the heck out of it. That shouldn't be a problem. :D

    Break In Procedures

Well guys I finally got my Dart back and the freshly rebuilt 318 sounds nice. However I want to know what is the proper way to break in an engine after a rebuild? On a previous rebuild I just babied it a little for about two thousand miles and changed the oil at that point. What do you gents...

Crate motors, Are you &%$ kidding me??

I still think you're better off finding your own solid block and sending it to a reputable shop instead of going crate. I've heard the workmanship in terms of assembly with the crates aren't always the greatest either.

    318 Builds

Yup and you know what's funny too? All the while the 440 boys are laughing at all of us for bickering over small blocks.

    318 Builds

Wow it's nice to see my thread has brought about some good discussions. This topic has become very interesting since the whole 5.0HO versus 318 debate seems to have been sparked. Let me say this gentlemen. I have an 88 Lincoln Mark VII with the 225HP 5.0HO and let me tell you it's a nice...

    318 Builds

I agree completely. For some reason the Chevy 327 and the Ford 302 came with the reputation of being excellent performance platforms while the 318 was considered "junk" by all enthusiasts alike. I recall even in the early days of FABO some members had the negative attitude towards the 318.

    318 Builds

Hey gentlemen is it just me or does it seem like more of us are doing 318 builds the last couple of years or so? I've been a Mopar enthusiast for a long time and for awhile it seemed like the attitude was "junk the 318 and go 360". Now it seems like many of us are building good 318's now. Am...

So, I have to know........ (solid vs hyd)

So basically we come down to personal preference right?

So, I have to know........ (solid vs hyd)

I believe it has to do with the fact many of us actually like to drive our cars on the street and not via a trailer. Many of us would rather spend time on other aspects of the car then making adjustments internally to the engine. Unless it's a full all out strip car there is nothing wrong with...

    260H or 268H (318)

Are you running power brakes and air?

    Engine failure after oil change

    I've heard Fram are crap.

    260H or 268H (318)

Yes I plan on keeping the stock exhaust manifolds for sure. That first grind sounds pretty good for what I use my car for.

    260H or 268H (318)

See that's one thing I have to think about carefully. This car is my daily that has air, and will be driven on the highway a lot. I have what was called "an RV" grind in there right now. I just thought of stepping up a bit so I could have a bit more power to ensure I defeat the occasional...

Would either of these work with stock components?

    260H or 268H (318)

Thanks for your input. Actually I plan on either installing a Gear Vendor's OD or some stock Dodge OD in terms of transmission upgrades. I really didn't plan on gears since this is a daily driven street machine.

    260H or 268H (318)

Okay guys I just received news from my mechanic that he believes my low oil pressure situation has led to some wiped out cam bearings. However to be sure he would have to open it up and tear it down. So with that said I am going to have him rebuild my 318 and since it's open I might as well...

    318 Swap Guide?

You should go on e-bay and buy a shop repair manual for your Dart. Those manuals have STEP BY STEP instructions on how to do basically anything on your car. They are ten times better then the very vague Haynes or Chilton's manuals you find at the auto parts stores.

    Good Cruise.....Gone Bad....

Thanks for the clues and encouragement guys. Hmmmmmmmm it would be disappointing if it had some major issue. However dropping in a 360 would be pretty cool. :) :)

    Sunday cam day

I really like that sound. Is it pretty good on the low end? With my engine perhaps being done I am already thinking of what cam to use in a new 318.

    Good Cruise.....Gone Bad....

Well guys last week I got my new BFG's finally installed on my car. So my wife and I decided to take the Dart out on the highway for a nice cruise to Palm Springs. Man it felt so good finally having some nice tires underneath this car. The handling and responsiveness was very nice. As we...

Out with the 318 in with?

Okay I see what you're saying. Otherwise if the guy had more cash you would definitely go Magnum right?

Out with the 318 in with?

Hey Rumblefish I'm late to this thread but I'm curious as to why you would stay away from a Magnum 360? Aren't those roller cammed? Aren't those a little better stock then an LA series engine?
