    Starting a BB Duster project

My comment was regarding the amount of load caused by the fan. If it draws “30 HP” on one motor it’s going to draw 30 hp on another because of the amount of work it takes to turn the fan stays consistent.

    Starting a BB Duster project

Horsepower is horsepower no matter what motor it’s on. I don’t believe a fan is going to draw anywhere near 30 hp, but whatever it draws it would be the same on whatever engine you have it on.

Yeah I did. The one with the spacer on it? Wasn’t sure if it was an adapter. Would you happen to have a P/N for that manifold. **Never mind, another member posted it.

I’ve looked around for an M1 for a low deck and have never been able to find a listing for a 4500 flange. Did they make a low deck 4500?

Has anybody done testing for a low deck intake for a 4500 carb? I know there’s not much to choose from but I was wondering what would work best for say 7000 rpm range? Would a spacer/ adapter with the TF 4150 work well?

    rear main leak

They won’t vent nearly fast enough to prevent crankcase pressure from building up. Again, they’re not intended to vent gases out, just to let air in. If you’re referring to the old engines, pre-PCV, they had a draft tube that ran down along the engine low enough to catch the air passing by the...

    rear main leak

Make sure you have some sort of crankcase evacuation system on it or you will chase leaks forever! You need something to create negative pressure in the crankcase. I. E. A PCV valve, vacuum pump or header type of evacuation system. If you’re just running breathers it’s not enough. Breathers are...

    Cooling problems

I agree that the shroud is restricting air flow. If you look at it there is about 25% of the surface area or more of the radiator that is being blocked by the shroud. I'd either have louvers punched in it or back it away from the radiator more. Air doesn't like to change directions very well and...

    Rocker Geometry!

Can Harland Sharpe rockers be converted to the ball/cup style adjusters? I have a set already and don't want to replace them if not necessary. EZ-1 heads.

    Roller rockers

I can't believe nobody has mentioned strength aa a prime benefit of roller rockers. Stamped steel rockets fail! I can't begin to count the number of push rods I have seen that went through a stamped rocker arm. Also deflection in the valve train is greatly reduced with the stronger roller...

Absolutely agree! I just have an opportunity to go look at a block and wanted know if it was worth the trip.

Were all 230 blocks cold weather blocks?

Were all the "230" blocks the thick wall "cold weather" blocks or just some?

Indy EZ, talks the talk, walks the walk.

What can be done to help? Obviously a proper tune up to avoid detonation but what else? Good studs, Aluminum caps? Thanks for your insight Brian. I'll leave it here since I don't want to hijack the thread.

    Glowing headers

Exactly Right! Couldn't be more wrong! 100% ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! While it is true a lean mixture runs hotter than stoich or a richer mixture it is very unlikely to get the exhaust hot enough on its own to make it glow red. If timing were near correct it would start a lean burn inside the cylinder...

    PEP forged crankshafts

PEP Crankshafts are the same as 440 Source. I was told that is who makes them for 440 Source so any reviews for them would give you an idea of what they're like.

Indy EZ, talks the talk, walks the walk.

Why do you say that? What have you found? I ask with all respect since I know you are well established and experienced, so Id like to hear more on it since we all fear the cap walking issues and block failures.

Trick Flow 440 heads, The Real Deal?

So do you guys(engine builders) think, with some work, they could be good for 700hp on a pump gas stroker? Or is that a little much? Maybe opened up to M/W size and or bigger valves?

    machine work questions.

Yes by all means! The plates will pull the block/ bores more into line with where they'll be when the heads are torqued down. Ask some of the guys on here that are actual machinists (MRL, Moper, OU812- Brian) & they can probably tell you how much a bore will move when the plates or heads are...

    Massive oil leaks.

90% of the new motors I see pissing oil out of every seal/ gasket or the stick are either only runnung 1 breather or none. All of them resolved the problem(if caught soon enough) by installing some sort of Positive Crankcase Ventalation system on it. Either a conventional PCV valve setup or...

Maybe someone pull them to see if it had any sludge build up. Might be hard to believe it only has 40k. It's a pull-a-part. Could have been for any reason possible.
