    7290 Style U Joint issue

Wow! I guess its not just me. I have been having nothing but trouble trying to get ujoints for my project too. My problem is the opposite of yours, mine have the clip grooves too far apart to fit into the driveshaft.

    About To Just Give Up!!!

Well, the Napa one is just like the Precision, probably just reboxed. I think I will just have to swap my old 3.55s back in.

    About To Just Give Up!!!

Thanks for the info. The one I have coming from napa has a Neapco #. I hope it isn't a reboxed Precision.

    About To Just Give Up!!!

I tried putting it into a press and giving it a nudge. they didn't budge at all. I may just give it another try. I got one coming from Napa, but who knows if it will work. Hopefully it will be a real Moog instead of Precision.

Found this picture. The side that is supposed to fit where it says 2 1/8'' is 2 1/4'' on my ujoints. Must have just got wrong parts in the right boxes.

yes, I checked that when the first one wouldn't work.

    About To Just Give Up!!!

Yes that is what I need. One thing I did not mention, on the first 347 I got, when I returned it, I had them grab a 315g off the shelf. It is O'reilley's 7260 joint. It had the grooves spaced right at 2.125 outside to out side. Maybe I should go get a 315g and put its caps on this and see...

    About To Just Give Up!!!

It seems after talking to SMCARNUT on the phone, that the snap ring grooves are machined out too far on the caps, or like was mentioned they have the wrong caps on the 7260 sides. The diameter is correct though. Thanks to all who have reached out or answered in this thread. I am going to try to...

    About To Just Give Up!!!

Ok, I hope someone can help. I have ordered 2 Precision #347 u-joints from O'reilley's, The conversion ujoints with 7260 size on one side and 7290 on the other. The specs say the small side should be 2.125 from outside of the clip to outside of clip. Both of these Precision brand are 2.25...

I actually ran the trans case that I'm building with the RVMB that I will be using. Drove to work daily . You are right that not all VBs, will work in all years cases. I ran into that before. Some RMVBs are based off of the earlier vbs. I bought the wrong one once at a swap meet. It was...

That's why RMVBs were made. I won't build a trans without one, or a transbrake.

Honestly, I had never thought of tightening the band to hold everything in when the pump comes out. I will start doing it that way myself now. I think a combination of the 2 methods will be the better way.

I agree 100% I'd be more inclined to pay for having it removed/installed. I would much rather stand or sit at my workbench, than be under a car getting crud in my eyes.

    Lockup to Non

The thing is, this is his only transportation. He is using my truck to get to work, but I need it a couple days a week myself. So, as soon as the kit gets here we need to get it together and back in... We don't want to keep the lock up, because when he builds the 360 it will need a real...

    Lockup to Non

My youngest son's 88 D100's 727 is shot. It is a lockup 727. He is planning to put a 360 in sometime next year. He wants to convert to non lockup and use a reverse manual valve body. Can we use the lockup case and just swap the input shaft and pump out of a non lockup trans, or should we...

    2.45 1st gear in A500 OD trans

I also had to make a rear exit cable mount for my ratchet shifter, and a bracket for the cable to go to the trans from the rear. This kept the cable away from the headers.
