As dusterny said, you usually have to put a bit of a squeeze on them to line them up with the holes in the shock plates.

Snake, when you get your springs done, the shop will have, or can make you up, the proper U bolts.

The proper way to determine the width to which you get the rear end cut, is to get the wheels and tires you plan to use, center them in the wheelwell, and measure between the mounting surface at the rear of the wheels.

The axle tubes are bigger on the 8.75". You can elongate the holes in the 7.25" plate and get them to fit properly.

Remove the wheel and brake drum, and you'll see a fairly large hole in one location on the axle end. Look through there and spin the axle a little, and you'll see 4 studs with nuts in behind there. . Put a deep socket through the hole and line it up with each nut, and remove all four. Give a...

Mad, no matter what the tranny is, the bellhousings are different from /6 to V8. In order to install the 318 you'll need a small block 904 or 727 tranny. Hope this helps.

If you can look down from the top and see where the dipstick tube enters the tranny, you'll be able to see the kickout as seen in the lower left of the 727 photo Joe posted.

At 350 hp I'd run that 8.25" till it cratered - and that should be quite a while, especiall if you're running an auto tranny.

I was taking with him last night and since he doesn't work today, I told him to take it in and have any engine and tranny codes pulled. If the engine or tranny threw a code, it will give us a starting point at least.

This is for a buddy who is having problems with an 87 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 Auto tranny, inline 6 cyl. This one has the Power / Comfort switch on the dash, although I don't think this has any effect on his current problem. Anyhow, lately with the hot weather, he'll be driving along at road speed...

Listen to what 65 is telling you. :) Have a good rebuild done on the 904 and put a Trans-Go TF-2 shift kit in there and you're good to go.

Send it back and buy a Trans-Go TF-2 Shift Kit. I've never had too much luck with those B & M Shift Kits. :)

There have been a couple of threads here on using the 8.8" Exploder rear end. As you were attemting to do, I believe the guys just bought an extra short side axle then shortened the long side and fitted the extra short axle. Do a search and see if you can find the threads.

Keep your 3:55 gears and go the torque converter route. The guys already gave you the best links to these.

I'm not sure what the going price is for a running 904, probably in the $150 - $250 range. However, I'm certain that MANY of the folks on here would be very interested in a complete play-by-play photo and description of the 518 install in your Cuda. Please??? :)
