Steve's 70 Gen III Hemi Build

I have been working on my oil cooler again. I didnt like how much it stuck out below the bumper. So have I since moved the oil cooler up behind bumper and installed it with a slight angle. I plan on welding a piece on the rear of the bumper to force air down through it.

I have messed with the Duster a little here and there when time permits. I did manage to get steering column and wheel installed. So I can turn it now lol.

I used a LS style cable for my throttle. The transmission cable is the lokar 727 cable. I will dig through my paperwork and see if I have the part numbers wrote down somewhere. Its been a minute since I bought them.

I moved the Duster to its new home and did do 1 thing to it while it was here. I had narrowed the rear end another 4 inches and ordered some new wheels and tires. I tried out my new lift and installed my new tires.. Much better.

I know its been over a year since my last update. Alot has been going on. I was just about to tear it back down to send off to have final body work and paint when I hit a wall.. Once painted and body put together, the little building I was working out of wasnt gonna work. Doors would hit walls...

Anyone running aftermarket A/C with their Hemi swap?

Yes I will be running the control valve under the dash just for the clean look and tight space behind intake.

At final assembly I will match the cables and get the proper length to look nice, but with that all my mockup under the hood is finished. I have made everything I needed and checked it all so here are some shots of my finished up engine compartment (untill paint and final assembly)

Steve's 70 Gen III Hemi Build

Ran into one of those step backs. I never did like the way the throttle had to make a big swoop in front of throttle body. Decided to not run a manual A518 so I had to get a TV cable to work somehow. After 3 tries I finally came up with a bracket design that was sturdy and didnt interfere with...

Got the aluminum version of my homemade air box back from HotRod shop. It fits perfectly, on final assembly I will put a rubber strip on it to save my paint and not sure but I might powdercoat it or just polish it. Not sure yet.

Decided it was time to plumb the power steering lines. I decided it might be smarter for me to invest a little in some plastic tubing to see how i want to run lines and to give myself and idea of how much to buy. Power steering line isnt very cheap and I would hate to have to waste some because...

Steve's 70 Gen III Hemi Build

I have been focusing mainly on getting all mockup under hood finished. I have changed things, added things and had to back up a few times and go a different route but its coming together nicely and all functioning like it should.

Got my new throttle pedal and cable hooked up. Dont like the FAST throttle body hookup for LS style linkage cause it comes in the front, but it works.

Steve's 70 Gen III Hemi Build

Seems like i take 6 months to do anything lol. I been working on car just doing alot and back and forth. I did finally nail down a design for my air box or box in general to try and block off some of the heat. I plan on getting my local HotRod shop to cut it out of aluminum and break it for me...

New hemi swap and questions about engine controls

I agree with above. Holley would be my choice. I ran FAST 1st on my engine, had problems with boxes going bad. Switched to Holley and did great. My experience thou could just be bad luck. But I am very happy with my Holley set up.

    Air Intake Setup

Thinking about running cold air intake thru the inner fenderwell on my Duster. By chance does anyone have some pictures of that done? Curious on how it looks and functions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Got my rough design on bracket for ECU and mounting location. Will play with this some more and see if I can use a factory glove box liner to wrap around it somehow.

Steve's 70 Gen III Hemi Build

Working on a couple odds and ends. Found a fix for lower tension springs for my fiberglass hood. Not sure the correct lb shock I need yet but go the placement setup. Might try to figure a way to take some of the wobble out of the hinge thou.

    GenIII A518 Question

I am confused on something and hopefully you all can help. I have seen it listed that I will need and that I wont need a spacer. A couple sites show using the adapter and spacer when bolting a 518 to the back of a Hemi like the one listed first in my pictures. Then some say I only need to run...

    Catch can setup?

Any one running a catch can on their hemi swaps? I have been looking at several brands and would prefer something that doesnt hang a foot off the engine if possible. Any ideas, custom setup or pictures available?

Any options other than Milodon for a 5.7

My Milidon pan leaks to sorta. I thought would be nice to use the factory oil pan gasket/windage tray. Well it seems to match up almost perfect. On the dyno oil kept running out the corner of the pan near timing cover. pan was more squared off than factory gasket and it left a small passage...

Yeah, this is the one quirk I have with this throttle body. You can mount a stud in the upper hold and pull it back like normal but makes cable run in a tight twist behind intake. You can use the provided bracket and it runs out front, but like you said you need a long cable. Hopefully thou it...

Anyone running aftermarket A/C with their Hemi swap?

I am running driverside compressor. I used the factory heater hoses location and just made space for the ac lines on the opposite side. I used the bulkhead connectors and just put them in backwards to gain more clearance. Here are a few pictures. I am using the vintage air gen2 compact version...

Yeah it depends on your sensor setup. And forgive me if I am not quite understanding the issues, but all I had to do was pick either early or late design on the cam and crank sensor set up. The throttle body already had the GM sensors that matched up to the wiring harness. I didnt have to splice...
