Ok counted teeth on ring gear (43), counted teeth on pinion (12) divided and its 3.58. That IS the number stamped on ring gear. I have just never heard of 3.58 gears.

I acquired a 8 3/4 center section out of a Dodge truck, 741 open and was told 355 gears. I counted the teeth on ring gear and pinion gear and came up with 3.91. The number stamped on the ring gear is 3.58. Just a little confused. What is proper way to determine EXACT ratio. Thanks for any help.

Ok, had a machinist bore the housing to 4.80 and turned the retainer down to 4.80 and is a perfect FIT!!

Hello, New to the site. Great Place for info!! Sorry if this has been asked before, but would like to know if boring out the small block bellhousing with the small 4.35 opening for the bearing retainer to 4.80 will weaken the bolts that hold the fork in place. I have the small block...
