    Optimum setup for 302 heads

I recently installed 302s on my 318, port matched to Performer intake and mild runner and bowl work. I'm running stock pistons though. Being you're running zero deck 167s and 10:1, I wonder if magnum heads might serve you better and offer more performance though. You could probably take...

    What do you think?

I recently installed a XE268 as well as mild ported 302 heads in my 318. Car is '64 Valiant, 4spd with 3.91s. I havn't run it for time as of yet, but I can tell you it runs like a bear, with no bottom end lag, and idles real nice with a slight lope. Mike

    Exhaust Question

As far as intakes go, a lot of people say that the Air Gap is the way to go. They're available from Mancini, Summit, and a bunch of other places. Mike

Mike, how did you arrive at those numbers? Did you go through a trial and error phase, or just knew that those numbers were the ones.? Thanks Mike

    Timing Question

I just started up my 318 that I added mild-ported 302 heads, Compcam XE268 with new chain, gear, springs, retainers, etc., and new set of Spitfire headers. Motor has Edelbrock Performer with 750 Holley, and Mallory dual-point distributor. Its in a 1964 Valiant with 4spd and 3.91 gears. My...

    Exhaust Question

2 1/4 should be adequate for your 318, but as abodyjoe says, why not just go ahead at this point and install 2 1/2 and be ready for possible future changes. Another item is, if you are looking for J-heads for that stock bottom 318, you would be way better off with a set of 302 heads or magnum...

Need help! Rocker shaft bolt broke in head. Need removal advice

You really don't have many options. Remove rocker assembly and if bolt section is above surface of head maybe you can get a tool on it and try to remove. Otherwise drill a hole in remaining section of bolt, install an easy-out, and carefully back out section of broken bolt. Mike P.S. If you...

    Head Question

Heres why I ask. I just bolted on a set of 302 heads and on to those I bolted a set of Spitfire headers with no gaskets and not really bolted on real tight. I bolted the Spitfires on to burn off the paint they had from shipping so I could then remove them and paint them with a heat paint. Well...

    Cam breakin Procedure

Yea Lee, I probably shouldn't of started it until I was ready to run it for 20 minutes. I have Shell Rotella T oil in it now, and after breakin I'm putting in Valvoline VR1 oil. I did extensive research and both of these oils were the ones most knowledgeable people recommended to use, because...

    Cam breakin Procedure

I just buttoned up my 318. Installed new cam, heads, lifters, springs, retainers, headers, etc.. I fired it up for about 10 seconds then shut it down. What I need to know is, what is the procedure to run it for breakin, and how long? Anything special, or just run it? I'm using proper type oil...

    Engine compression read out

Pull the valve cover and start engine and see if offending lifter operation looks similiar to ones around it. Caution, you will have to make a cardboard type splash guard when running engine with valve cover off or oil will splash onto exhaust manifold. My opinion from what you've stated is what...
