    7.25 to 8.75 swap questions

Hopefully this spring/summer I can get the 8.75 assembly installed ( once all the winter crap gets out of the way so I can actually see the Dart and get to it ). I understand the driveshaft needs shortened 2.25 inches ( and balanced). I don't imagine the U-Joint yokes are the same size but...

Need Advice Park Lock Cable PLZ

'65 Dart 273/904 1st : I always had manuals and don't know jack about autos. Freshly rebuilt trans was given back with, " Oh yea, where the park lock cable enters the trans...it's leaking; that'll be $***, see ya." That is an on-going issue so nuff said. I called A & A Trans, explained...

    Driveshaft shortening question

Glad I found this cause " No, I don't". I'll be going 7.25 to 8.75 and figured to shorten driveshaft the difference between axle center to u-joint center of the two. Are you doing the same 1BD71 ?

    Fresh Rebuilt 904 locked up

THX all for the responses. As of yesterday evening the pan was dropped and evidently the park lock cable came loose. Why it came loose is yet to be determined but hopefully I can at least drive it to my garage on Monday. Again, many thanks.

    Fresh Rebuilt 904 locked up

Thank you Louie, appreciate the concern. Any crawling I do will be in my own garage with the vehicle on stands. With the arthritis there ain't much crawling done and not for long; that's the main reason I have to have so much done by others.

    Fresh Rebuilt 904 locked up

All towing was done with rear end raised and when I bought the case of ATF at the Dodge dealer I asked then to check capicity of a 65 904. I know I should have had at least 1 qt left even with the deeper pan ( add 1 qt ). Thank you all, greatly appreciated. The trans is older than most of the...

    Fresh Rebuilt 904 locked up

Would that mean the adjustments were put " somewhere in the vicinity" and not tightened properly ? And would it be the gear selector or park lock cable or both ? Dumb ? I know. I just haven't a clue to how the dual cable arrangements works.

    Fresh Rebuilt 904 locked up

It's not the emer/parking brake. That was first thing checked when it occurred the first time. I found neutral with the stick next to "R". OK, so I'll know where things are in the future. Figured it might have something to do with the shift kit. Like I said, I don't know jack about an auto...

    Fresh Rebuilt 904 locked up

That's what the shop will probably have to do tomorrow to push inside. I'm wondering about what will be when it gets reconnected. When the car was towed home from trans rebuilding shop I was told there was an issue with the park lock cable and it had to be ( I think ) rotated about 90 degrees...

    Fresh Rebuilt 904 locked up

Fresh rebuilds on 65 engine and 904 ( Console shifter, dual cable ). Problem with intake gasket so towed to shop next to machinist. Can't seen to get trans out of park ( assumed in park ). Tried various shifter positions and rocking but no go. Any ideas or anyone ever have similar problem ? THX

    Am I SOL on 8.75

I have found and made a commit to by an A-body ready 8.75 so the one I have now from a 68 Coronet is taking up space. I paid $450 in the blind for it ( OK silly me ) then found the internal scarring. I don't know how serious this is. The entire unit is drum to drum " 11 inch " ( drums do need...

    Am I SOL on 8.75

Rotational resistence is constant. No fore & aft end play and rocking the yoke has enough play to hear but not measure. I didn't give the groove much thought figuring a shaving got caught but wasn't considering the gear steel would be harder.

    Am I SOL on 8.75

THX guys and yep, it's a 742 case. Any tricks I should know about putting it back together ? The last one of these I messed with was 40 years back and I wasn't the one messing with it. Thanks again.

    Am I SOL on 8.75

Got the "new" 68 8.75 torn down and after draining the housing noticed metal shavings then did some yoke rotating. Is this just an adjustment issue ? From what I can see all the gear teeth look good.

    B-Body 8.75 to '65 A

I got a complete 8.75 from a 68 Coronet ( 55" flange to flange ). I know the perches and driveshaft will require work but am wondering how much hassle ( if at all feasible ) it will be to switch from 11" drums and bbp to 10" drums and sbp. Moser can do axles and extra backspacing would provide...

    7.25 Replacement

I'm a total klutz/ditz trying to search out things. Must be the "old fart" and computer litrit thing. Anyway, is there a larger axle assemble that is basically a "bolt in" to replace the 7.25 in my 65 Dart ? I don't mind having to dicker with the driveshaft or larger BP ( have 5 on 4" ) but...
