Dumping exhaust down under the car

I don’t ever notice smell on the inside of my car so much, but when I get home from being around it, my clothes definitely smell. But I think it’s from when I’m outside the car while it’s idling. I have it tuned with a fatter idle and pump gas just seems to smell bad anymore on top of that. But...

Where to get TTI Headers Recoated?

Had my TTi’s redone at Jet Hot in OKC about 4 years ago. For some reason they told me that Jet Hot coated TTi headers so the headers were stripped and coated for free. I don’t think anyone else has had success in getting them warrantied like that since then though. But mine do have a number...

    Post your sound bytes here.

My old 2.5" exhaust with no X and no H on the newer motor. Had it on the run stand so I figured why not compare the old high compression motor to the new lower compression motor with that same exhaust since I changed it all at once at rebuild. The Cherry Bombs are really rusted out. Notice all...

X pipe or H pipe, again

This could get debated till we're all blue in the face. But I will say from my experience, when we changed the H pipe to an X pipe on my sister's Mustang years ago, the car pulled harder in the top end and sounded better in the top end as well. I think that the H pipe sounds better than the X...

    X pipe install

I really like the idle before the X personally, but you're going to get better performance with it. And if you're looking for a smoother sounding and quieter idle, it's the way to go. I also run an X pipe. If it weren't for the performance benefit, I'd do without it.

To run cutouts or not run cutouts, that is the question.

Notice how he had to turn one way up into the body? If you don't cut the flange, rotate it, and re-weld it, that's what you're going to end up doing. If not, you have to install one cutout backwards which is what I did. There's no way I could even install mine like that. The kit they send you is...

To run cutouts or not run cutouts, that is the question.

Skip ahead to the 5:00 mark. That's my car running electric cutouts after the X. Not being biased to my car, but if you think that sounds like crap, then you and I have very different opinions of what sounds good. Does it sound as good as an open header? No. Does it sound pretty decent? I'd...

To run cutouts or not run cutouts, that is the question.

Such haters on the exhaust cutouts. If you think that open cutouts on a built motor sounds like an exhaust leak and you think the police are going to come get you for loud exhaust, YOU ARE F.o.S. Yeah if you put them on a stock motor, of course it's going to sound like crap. Regardless, do...

    d#$m TTI headers

This is the real reason TTi's don't fit everyone's cars the same (probably). My frame measures a good 1/4" narrower than what it's supposed to be which is probably why mine hit the frame. Nothing you can do about that.

    d#$m TTI headers

Mine hit the frame rail too. I cut and welded a notch in the frame to make the tube clear. When I measured my frame rails, I seem to remember that mine were narrower than what the general consensus said it was supposed to be, which made sense to me why mine hit the frame.

    Dynomax Ultraflow mufflers..

340/417, W2 heads and a healthy roller cam. Exhaust tubing is TTi 3" X. It was idling at 1500 rpm in that video for some reason. It has a nice lope at 1000 rpm. Don't worry about it man. Everyone has their perference on what a good sounding muffler is. It's just like music. We're all...

    "H-pipe," X-pipe," or no pipe?

Open crossover vs open exhaust. You're probably not going to see a whole lot of difference in power between the two. In the sound department? Open headers sound WAY better than does the open X pipe. It's one of those things that you have to hear in person to understand how much of a...

    3" muffler suggestions

"Semi-quiet"? That's going to mean 10 different things to 10 different people. UltraFlo's have a nice tone and are deep sounding at idle, but I don't think that are "quiet" (IMO). I'm not going to slip by the neighbors at 6am that's for sure! They'll be quieter than bullets though.

    Muffler sound

Did you look through the sound bytes sticky? Mine is at the end. TTi 3" X pipe, Ultra Flo's dumped. I don't think that any recording will truely sound how a car really does in person. You've got a bazillion microphones that all record different and then a bazillion speakers that will play...

    Thinking about Electric cut outs

They will sound better at the headers than after the X or H at idle. I put mine after the X so I still get scavenging effects when I open them. They don't sound amazing to me at idle but at WOT it sounds good.

    Need exhaust help

3" TTi X pipe dumped at the axle with UltraFlo's. Not much drone to them even dumped, but they ain't quiet. If they were run out the back it may be different. The neighbors joke about how it "busts their windows out" when I start it. That's exaggerated but 'tis noisy...

Any tricks out there to remove burned oil from exhaust system?

Start with Mother's polish (TTi recommendation). Then go to harsher chemicals/compounds if you need to. Edit: I was thinking you were talking about headers. You could still try mothers though. As far as oven cleaners, that stuff takes off anodizing. Can't imagine it wouldn't do the same to...

3.5 inch collector to 3 inch exhaust

I remember reading an article that was testing a SB stroker motor. It made fairly significant more power with the headers that had 3.5" collectors over the 3" collectors. I don't recall the numbers but it seems like Shady Dell maybe did the testing and write-up on it.
