    OPINIONS ON EXHAUST SOUND

The commando exhaust setup has the resonator right at the rear bumper, and it has the big chrome tip on the end that protrudes through the rear valance. That is the part that they were having trouble with, and have replaced with a tail pipe. In my recollection, the resonator adds to the unique...

    OPINIONS ON EXHAUST SOUND

I’d like to hear anybodies opinion on the Waldron early A body commando exhaust system, if anybody has that setup. I’m going to redo the exhaust on my little commando car, and would normally buy the Accurate Exhaust setup, but Waldron is within driving distance from me, and about $500 cheaper...

does anyone offer early A small block shortie headers

Laysons offers the old Spitfire design, quite pricey tho. At least compared to what Harold sold them for back in the day. They started out at $188, not sure what they are now. Just looked them up….$865! Double OUCH! How can they go up almost $600 when headers for 67 and later cars from...

What's a good coating for exhaust manifolds???

Sounds to me like any one of these coatings will be a good choice, just picking the right color is all you need. I’m a fan of the Eastwood dark grey cast iron paint, even tho it has a shelf life, I’ve used an age old can with great results!

    spitfire headers

are you sure they’re not $615 for the pair? At one time shortly after taking over the design from Harold, they were $450 from Laysons. I can believe they are more than triple that now, nobody would buy them when Dougs and TTI are less than $1k!

Early A 273 manifold - flange pipe questions

I believe the largest diameter pipe that will fit and not hit the torsion bar or the frame is 2 1/4”, that’s what I have on my car. And my exhaust guy squawked about the minimal clearance to get pipes through. He also made be a bell flange where it turns to head out back, so I could take the...

1966 Barracuda single to dual issues

Well, I've been known to make these from time to time! It allows up to 2 1/2" pipe to be run through the passenger side where there is no cutout otherwise! It is a direct bolt in, and is made from the original crossmember!

    Doug Thorely Headers

Agreed!! That's why I didn't get them then, and still don't have them now! I have Spitfires on my blue car, but the next system I'm getting will be the Accurate Exhaust original style system, it's a thing of beauty, and is supposed to flow better than duals, and sound great! I have that set here...

    Doug Thorely Headers

They fit!! When Doug first decided he would start making these again about 15 years ago, he started a preorder list, you had to call him personally! I was very early on the list, and had a good talk with him as he laid out the details of making these headers originally, and why they would be...

    Hooker Header install issue..

Did you hammer the pinch weld where the firewall meets the floorpan in the tunnel hump??? You know the 727 doesn't fit without hammering that flat, and it's still tight and may not give you enough wiggle to get the passenger side the free clearance it needs! As for the flange meeting the...

    Help me make up my

The Accurate exhaust system is designed to work with the stock manifolds! If you're springing the almost $1k for that setup, might better buck down for the Dougs underchassis headers, as the stock manifolds are a port mismatch to the 360 heads, and not by just a little either!!

    65 cuda exhaust pipe size?

Your guy is right, 2 1/4" is super tight going through the torsion bar clearance spot! My guy whined about how tight it was, all of he way to the bank to cash my check!! I believe the OE setup is 1 7/8", but I can check when I get home!!

    Confused newbee with a 273

Do NOT spend the money on those headers, they won't fit! They are for a "mid sized"car and the Cuda you have is a "small" car! Don't spend your money on something you can't use, buy the ones you need up front!! Yea, the correct ones are more money, that's because it's more work to make a header...

1966 Barracuda single to dual issues

Not true, my modified crossmember is engineered to be a direct bolt in piece! The cutout is in the only place on the passenger side that will allow you to pass through, and my converted units are open as far as they can be and still clear the crossmember! It works great with 2 1/2" or smaller...

1966 Barracuda single to dual issues

Good luck getting their passenger side through the transmission crossmember, which isn't even cut out for duals! All early A bodies only came with single exhaust! The solution to this???
