Another overheating situation 63 Slant six

When I bought my fairly well maintained 64 slant I went for my first drive, went less than a mile and the Temp gauge was pegged. Nursed it home and took out thermostat and did a drainage test on rad which seemed unplugged. Still overheated right away. Took the water pump off and found that the...

HEI Upgrade but No Spark (kinda)

When I got my electronic distributor I also got all the wiring and control box. I wonder if you did, with factory distributor to box fittings. Makes life easier. I could help with distributor install and have a spare factory box, but factory connectors may be required. I'm inner city NW.

HEI Upgrade but No Spark (kinda)

I wonder if it ever ran after the engine change. Probably a small problem, perhaps exacerbated by your well intentioned changes. Possibly a ballast resistor wiring or failure based on switch response of timing light. I'm in Calgary, and have a points distributor to achieve running status, but...

1973 Plymouth Scamp accelerating/braking issues, please help

"When I first checked it out, it started fine but I noticed (after checking the oil levels) that the oil smelled like gas, the car need a new battery, new alternator, and fuel pump" I've read here about a fuel pump failure (diaphragm?) that allows gas to get into the oil, so you may have a...

    starter motor for slant six

SSD: "-'63-'66 Canadian-built vehicles used Prestolite ("Auto Lite") direct-drive Bendix drive starter" I'm nowhere near my car right now and can't check it, but it sounds like I have a direct drive. Car in Calgary, me in Ontario (out on Lake Erie but that's another story). My brother has a...

    Valve lash

Thanks for the quick replies. It's all good, SSD, proper slant procedures followed for adjustment, also, lash not set @ 15/18 when warm on the Trumpet! And, another procedure followed on my other A body, a 1929 Ford phaeton! I was just wondering why so much lash is required on this particular...

    Valve lash

Hi y'all: I had a deja vu last week when I set my rocker lash. Back about 1969-1970, Mr Rouse's auto shop class, there was a slant on a test bed, I had to set the valves on it after they were placed out of adjustment. Holding the 7/16th(?) wrench on a moving rocker....I knew I'd done it before...

    Overheating

Wow, Quick response!!!! I'll do the valves for sure, just got the car and haven't got around to it. Haven't driven the car much, but it runs a bit over 1/2way, you can see the needle change as the thermostat opens and closes. Have checked the timing, it seems to be a bit out of whack...

    Overheating

Hey y'all: So my new to me '64 225 was overheating, car was supposed to be in good shape when I bought it, went for a short spin in the 'hood, looked down at the T gauge, it was pegged. So I went through the usual steps to fix it, easy things first, good fluid level, put in new thermostat...
