Are all 273 V8's the same?

A buddy of mine made me some wedding rings to address the later model register. Basicly if the later model crank is used with an early model torque converter with the smaller hub is used the rings take up the slack.

FELT DONUT BEHIND THE STEEL CRANK BALANCER

When I tore down my 66 272 it didn’t have one. Since the motor was .030 I figured it was left out.

    Information on the 273

My 273 short block awaiting the heads. Heads will have stainless 1.84 valves cut down from 1.88s, stock stainless exhaust valves. Comp valve springs to match the E4 Isky grind. The forged pistons are cut down so I can keep the CR reasonable for the crappy gas we have.

    Information on the 273

I would imagine 920s or 302 Swirl Ports. Not sure J heads are allowed.

Need help for 1st Cam break in :

The spinning lifters is critical. Before installing the lifters insure there’s a crown at the bottom of each lifter. The crown is what causes the lifter to spin when modulating the RPMs during breakin. You can check for the crown by butting two lifters together at the base. They shouldn’t be...

    Another 273 question

Seems years ago we had a member that went by “The Rev”. Ran a wagon in stock eliminator with the 273. Held several class records. Seems he was consistent in the mid 13s. Another is Paul Wong, runs in Division 7. Runs 273s in a 65 Valient and a Belvedere. you can actually make a 273 work. It’s a...

    Building a 273

The 273 is a good little motor. However, it’s a bit endemic in the low end due to cubic inches and compression. The 272 2 barrels came with an advertised 8.8CR. This coupled with the weight of your car and a high rear gear ratio will make the the car sluggish especially with street driving. I’m...

Don’t think so on the cast crank 273. I went and looked it up and they all had steel cranks.

When you order parts you honestly don’t need

I finished the resto of my 68 GTS in 2015. I still have parts that I ordered on top of what went on the car. Mostly seals and small parts. Example, I have two bags of stainless screws I ordered from Mr Gs. Can’t figure out why I did that.

    273 question

Nothing wrong with the 273. It’s a small motor of small displacement. Just need a little gear in the butt to make it go. Seeing you are from Pasadena I assume you are from Cali. If so $3500 is probably the norm. Most of the 273 blocks I’ve run across have been .030. Once in awhile you’ll end up...

    Iron 273 4 barrel manifolds

No, still allowed along with 302 and 308 casting heads. Bill Schmacker of NW stock eliminator fame argued the case to NHRA and got the rule change. His daughter runs a 65 Valiant in stock and shes pretty competitive.

    Iron 273 4 barrel manifolds

Given the 2 barrel pistons were 8.8 to 1 deck height changes as well as how much is taken off the head and head gasket thickness that motor could easily be in the 9 to 9.5 to 1 CR range. Was the dyno pull pull done with 920 heads?

    Iron 273 4 barrel manifolds

Another source is the Class Racer forum under the sub form Stock/Super Stock. Stock and Superstock racers have been allowed to run the D4B and the DP4B for several years now. NHRA allowed the change because the intake was offered over the counter I would imagine they would be willing to turn...
