    273 copper head gaskets SCE

Yes they are both true D/Darts that I own. The candy apple red and white mother of pearl was Ted Spehar and Ralph Costa's D/Dart -original race engine with a larger cam.. The all white one came out of CA. Was Dana's old car. He put the crate engine in it. Has 4.10 gears in it.

    273 copper head gaskets SCE

If it's my white D/Dart with the Cragars on it, it currently has a 360, 380hp Mopar Performance magnum crate engine in it. It's quick.

    Building a 273

Speaking from experience, I personally would go with a 360 Magnum crate engine. It's all done and ready to bolt in. I've got a 380HP Mopar Performance one in my one D/Dart and it is quick. It's barely streetable for my liking with the 4.10 gears The race engine in the other D/Dart is ok but I...

    Iron 273 4 barrel manifolds

If you look on the NHRA Class Index page, it allows the 273 to use Edelbrock heads with a bump up of 5 to 10 HP. I didn't see anything on the LD4B in either the engine blueprint or index sections. The Chrysler part number for it is 2836139. I believe they came with and without the p/n cast...

    Iron 273 4 barrel manifolds

The D/Darts came with the 2536771 intake that came on the w/CAP engines. Due to larger throttle bores, a 1/2" thick aluminum spacer was fabricated "in house" to adapt the Holley carb to the intake. The manifolds were not modified at all.

273 fans. This is a must read

You had a true 1966 D/Dart a while ago? Was it a white, red interior, 273 - 275 hp, 4-speed, radio delete 4.86 gears, Doug's headers, 1966 Dodge Dart GT? Inquiring minds want to know. Alan - true D/Dart owner.

    273 Charger Engine (235hp or 275hp)?

I have both a 360/380HP Magnum crate engine and a 273/275HP race engine in my real D/Darts. I like the 273 because it's original to the car. Both/all are 4-speed cars. D/Darts came with Camcraft cams (0.491595 intake and 0.501495 exhaust lift per mfg drawings), a 4160-3778 -750 cfm Holley...

D Dart spec. Anyone build one?

Although mine ran a best of 12.92 at 105, it ran mostly 13.1's. They also came from the factory with 4.86 gears.

    289 vs 318 ..... Ford vs Mopar

With some work, D/Darts were capable of running in the high 12's in the 105 mph area. They were quick but not class competitive.

D Dart spec. Anyone build one?

I currently own 2 real D/Darts. I had another one (the one that's been on the auction block 10 times) that I installed a 2 barrel motor with the Mopar Performance P-4452761 cam and lifter package in it. It was a .450/.455 hydraulic lift cam. Also installed were an Edelbrock Torker intake, a...

    Magazine Builds

273 - many years ago, 10 or so, some entered a 273 in the Engine Masters contest and they did an article on it. It only made a few test passes and didn't compete. Have you ever run across this article or was I dreaming it?

    273 Charger Tear Down-Head Gaskets/Valve Seals

I think Felpro only has one size gasket for the 273, 318 and 340. Bought a complete gasket set from Felpro for a 273 and the gaskets were huge. Good luck finding 273 gaskets.

Hot Rod Magazine HP 273 build

Yes....it's the same article that is in the Feb, 2020 issue of Mopar Muscle. Looked around the Web for Steve Magnante's contact info to correct some of the D/Dart info. No luck.

    Large valved 273

TMM - sorry about the X's. D/Darts had stock 920 heads - 1.78 and 1.50 valves. They are closed chamber swirl port heads. Mine ran a best of 12.95 at 105 with launch and shifts up around 6900 RPM's. The Doug's headers had 1 3/4" primaries and 3" collectors back then. The guy that raced my...

The "Gendarme III" was not a D/Dart . It was just a 65 Dart GT. The 50 D/Darts that were produced were 1966 Dart GT's.

    920 vs. 302 Heads

I believe the 920's were used on all of the 66 273 engines - both 2 and 4 barrel. The w/CAP engines had a different intake PN and distributor. The D/Dart had the w/CAP intake, Holley, adapter, manual choke, cam, headers, mechanical advance distributor, and unique unsilenced air cleaner. The...

    920 vs. 302 Heads

My Dart running in D/S back in 1966 ran a best of 12.92 and 105 mph. This was with stock 920 heads, 7" wide slicks and rosin. The car was launched and shifter at from 6700 to 6900 rpm's. So the stock 920 heads are pretty good. I believe the car was only run competitively in 1966.

    273 help

I had a 64 Valiant 200 that originally came with a slant 6 and a 4-speed. The previous owner switched it over to a 273 - 2 barrel carb, 4-speed car. I decided to go with a D4B and a Carter that I got from a buddy at work. Turns out the Carter was from an early max wedge (not sure of the carb...

    273 help

The D-Dart used a 1/2" spacer/adapter to mount the 3778 Holley carb to the intake. The holes in the intake were not bored out. It ran in D/Stock and the part had to match the casting number drawing.

Nice car stroker402. It sounds healthy. Was wondering what clutch you are running in your car. I have to find one for my Dart. It's hard to come up with one for a 122 tooth flywheel -- 9.5 or 10.0 inch. Alan

    oil pan gasket

The only reason I know about the one piece ones is I'm in the process of removing my oil pan on my 360 Magnum crate engine. I have to clearance it for the pitman arm and center link. It's in a 1966 Dodge Dart and has Doug's headers. I really don't want to pull the engine due to the headers...

    oil pan gasket

There are a few one piece gaskets out there. Not sure which 360 these fit. Mopar Performance P5249932 Milodon #41007 Felpro has one also.

    barbell lifters

D/Darts used the barbell lifters and they spun them up to 6900-7000 range. They also had lifts in the .500" area. With that in mind, the previous owner of my first D/Dart had to change 4 of the barbells due to breakage. Those 4 were replaced with solid ones, so the engine had 12 barbells and...

    273 Weber Intake Manifold

This may sound strange but ......I want to say that I heard or read somewhere that Koffel still had the engine or Weber setup. Maybe Stewart Pomeroy or Paul Ceasrine or told me that when they were still around? I'll have to look through my emails and notes on my D/Dart. Might be in there...

I think these head gaskets are what was on my first D/Dart. On my tablet, I measured the silhouette left on my block with the bore set at 3.63. The seal ring was just about 4.00. The material looks like it would compress quite a bit. So I'd say the NOS gaskets that you just got are the...

Which 360 oil pan is shallow ?

Retroboy, Sorry for hijacking your forum. I just measured my 5 quart, center sump 360 Mopar crate engine pan and it's 7" deep. It's sits entirely above the bottom of the cross member. If you cut your pan to get more ground clearance, you're going to reduce the quantity of oil that it holds...
