Who currently runs them?
Which is the 273 commando casting or are they same ,last 3 256 or something?

Anyone run them at the track?
 
I think all 4bbl would be commando / charger.

What year are you looking for?

In the nhra rule book it lists the part numbers for the year car.

Also you can look in the year in questions parts book for part numbers.

As I understand sometimes the casting number is different than the part number

I once had a 71Demon Sizzler, born with a single-plain 2bbl on it. That intake reminded me a lot of the Commando 4bbl intake. IIRC the carb on there was a Rochester but not sure anymore.
She went like stink with the 9:1ish Scr. I still have it; dunno what I'm saving it for...... It could only be better with a 4bbl pad.

I have a pair of those early a exhaust manifolds too for a 64 dart.

I'm just curious if anyone runs the intake still and maybe any track times.
I know what they flow as cast.

I use them on my street cars. There were 3 main casting numbers used in A-bodies. The '65 model was unique. In '66-7 they used 2536563 for most applications, and a 2536771 for cars with C.A.P. (Cleaner Air Package). I don't know of any performance differences between the three. I won't get into the D-Dart or marine/industrial application discussion.....

I've got one without a date code if that helps any. The two bumps are there, but, no visible numbers in between.

I like that intake and run them on the street. No track time and no quarter mile time. We used to have a quarter mile marked off so we would know if changes helped or hurt. A friend dynoed a 2 barrel pistoned 273 with an Isky E-4 cam and the rest of the Commando good parts including that intake. It made 265 hp. I also run Jet Hot coated factory exhaust manifolds with the Commando 2 1/4 single straight thru exhaust.
 
Your question is about the intake only. My guess is you could get a massaged 273 intake to run quick enough to need a roll bar in an A body. I have come to realize you can make WAY more power with a massaged stock intake than most people think possible. Aftermarket better? Sure! Absolutely! I have seen 560hp out of a massaged 383 intake. I’m about 400 through a massaged 68 340 intake. All through stock exhaust manifolds. If you have a SERIOUS stroked short block with SERIOUS head flow. A massaged stock intake will flow a BUNCH! The more depression you have at the intake port of the head, the more the intake will flow. Remember air is drawn into the motor. The first air to move is at the back of the intake valve. Something to think about, say you were running a blow through supercharger. Is the intake an overwhelming concern? High boost or high depression can overcome a good number of warts an intake might have. These are very broad/simplistic statements, but I feel if you are looking for the bottleneck in an stock casting LA motor it is head flow, then exhaust, then intake.

The D/Darts came with the 2536771 intake that came on the w/CAP engines. Due to larger throttle bores, a 1/2" thick aluminum spacer was fabricated "in house" to adapt the Holley carb to the intake. The manifolds were not modified at all.
 
Another source is the Class Racer forum under the sub form Stock/Super Stock. Stock and Superstock racers have been allowed to run the D4B and the DP4B for several years now. NHRA allowed the change because the intake was offered over the counter I would imagine they would be willing to turn loose the cast iron intakeS they own.
