Update. I got another switch (from rock auto this time.) It was the 'long' style. This one works with no issues. I have reverse lights again! I guess the autozone switch was just bad out of the box. Thanks all for your help.

After looking other places for a replacement switch, I have determined I have the “short” switch. Some places I read they are interchangeable. If this is true I will try another “long” switch as it fits the harness plug so much more snug. Hopefully that will fix the issue. The second picture...

Jumping the terminals on the connector the reverse lights come on. The switch doesn’t change on the ohmmeter when in reverse. I will try a new switch.

Sorry I wasn’t clear about that. The reverse lights were working fine before I swapped switches. So I should rotate the plug and try again?

Ha. Good eye. It definitely isn't loose but I didn't put a torque wrench on it yet until I can confirm the spec. I believe it's 90ft lbs but not positive. Will definetly confirm before the install

Ha. Indeed he is. In fact, he's the one that introduced me to mopars (and a-body's!) at a young age with his '70 Swinger. Sweet ride. He's been a big help along the way for sure. He hopes the 727 will help both our projects along.

I appreciate the reply's. Nothing against the 904 but the decision has been made to swap in the 727. Cost is a factor. Both will need a rebuild so an arrangement was made where costs will be split on rebuilding the 727 with the understanding that I will use it for now and my uncle will use it...
