How strong is an a-body 8.25 and can you make it stronger?

There’s a good amount of post on this if you search 8.25 or 8 1/4. To answer your question though, there’s only one way to find out. I’m at a tame 430 ft lbs but my tires spin enough to not abuse the rear end too much.

Is a 7.25 rear strong enough?

I ran one behind a worn out 360 for a few years. Even took it to a drag strip and turned a 14 with it. I was 18-23 at the time so it saw a healthy amount of burn outs and abuse.

Automatic transmission temperature sensor the master debate...

I’ve got the bung welded onto my pan with the sensor in place. It’s been there a few years with zero leaks but I have not wired it yet.

    Cold fluid level?

It was low on fluid. Got back onto the trailer without any issues and it would roll forward in drive with no pressure on the pedal.

    Cold fluid level?

I do not plan on driving the car an inch until I confirm the level is where it needs to be. So I will start the car. Cycle through the gears then shift it into N and let it idle.then check it and make sure it is just below the add line.

    Cold fluid level?

That makes me feel a little better! I pushed the car in front of the ramps and the only driving was onto the trailer then off. Could I have done serious damage being low on fluid?

    Cold fluid level?

Thanks. I’m going to create another thread trying to figure out if it could be any other issue.

    Cold fluid level?

Not wet but the car has sat a long time and now I’m second guessing if I put enough fluid in it. Obviously I know it’s not empty. I also confirmed this when I pulled them temp sensor and fluid came out.

    Cold fluid level?

At this point I’m nervous about damaging it. When I was pulling it onto the trailer I was at almost 3000 rpm to get up.

    Cold fluid level?

I have read two different opinions on this. The first is what you stated essentially. Once the transmission is engaged and working it will pump fluid out of the pan and give me an accurate reading. The other states that fluid will expand when it warms up which can cause the level to increase...

    Cold fluid level?

My car was struggling to climb up onto the trailer over the weekend. Tonight I went over to check the fluid and of course didn’t have the keys. I checked it cold just for fun and it was at the add quart line. I don’t even know if there is a solid answer to this but what should the level be when...

    Need help identifying industrial 727

This transmission is used in a vehicle that pushes around aircraft and is paired with an old flat head 6. On the side of the housing where 727 is normally stamped it says 844-5. On the rail above the pan on the drivers side the only numbers I can see are 2659 787L. From the face of the housing...

    Good converter for the street?

If I remember Dynamic has a sale around the holidays. I got mine for $695 and was told that is the sale price I believe.

If it is in the budget give frank Lupo a call at dynamic converter. Give him the specs on your car and don’t look back.

    7 1/4 rear strength

If you are a good welder than pull an 8.8. Out and grab an extra passenger side (might be drivers side) axel and take it home. Lop off a few inches from the longer side to make them even. Weld up your spring perches and have st it. 7 1/4 can last a while but it could break that afternoon. I...

Fair price for an 8 3/4 housing with axels?

I have a lead on an abody 8 3/4 with backing plates and axels and was curious what a fair price would be?

    Converter too close to housing?

Another dumb question but does this trans cross member go in with this “open” side facing the rear? Like the arrow would be pointing to the rear in this photo.

    Converter too close to housing?

I’m not sure I hear a clack but it can’t get it on any farther. It thumped down twice but I can still pull it off by pulling straight out.

Got the converter installed but it is really close to the housing. Is this correct?

    What fluid for Dynamic Converter?

Got my converter from Dynamic and needed to know what fluid to put in it. I plan on calling Frank tomorrow but I’ll be passing some parts stores tonight so figured I would ask here too.
