    Vacuum advance identify

Thank you mderoy340! I was initially suspicious ordering the vac advance not knowing the year of distributor & obviously I was in err!! Upon further examination of pics on Napa's site, the '70 year model looks correct! On Napa's site, they show to have two listings and reference to a # on...

    Vacuum advance identify

My 74 Dart 318 donor car had a points type distributor in it . I have no clue as to age of distributor. It shows to be a refurbished one and there are no stamped identifying numbers that I can see. Looks like sandblasting cleaned them off, if there were any to begin with. The vacuum...

    318 Nylon Distributor bushing..?

Is there a replacement source for the nylon [I suppose] bushing, that has the roll pin in it located on the shaft ? Was there a thread addressing this some wheres? Thanks FABO!

    Odds of battery just dying?

Yup, seen batteries go out exactly like that and THEN recover to just like new after a few minutes of running! My theory is a loose/fracture cell connection on the grid. You can get "12.7 volts", but no ampacity to speak of. A 3 yr. old battery is at the end of my comfort zone. A great tool...

car runs 14.5V when it starts???

I lost a fusible link on my 69 Chevelle once...had a ground/short problem on headlight harness where it went through radiator support area to headlights. Amazing how many bulbs it blew when that occurred. Even the dash lights! Just for fun, check your battery voltage at rest in the morning...

    Replacing my points distributor

I noticed recommendations to increase the spark plug gap when converting from points to HEI..some plugs better than others for/when increasing the gap?? What are y'alls plug recommendations in this case for a mild street 318?

    Early A electronic ignition pictures

Hey, anybody have any engine bay pictures of, after converting to Electronic Ignition on a V8? I'm at the point of decision on keeping a points system or change to electronic on my 65 Fish, one way or the other the old distributor is coming out. I like my original looks, but am not too...

How to do a Basic Wire Splice

Nice write up on soldering!! I use a fireplace/long lighter for the heat shrink, it allows more reach in confined areas and keeps your knuckle hairs from getting singed. Also, do not forget to clean the solder tip w/wet sponge and re-tin before storing. Greatly helps extend life and...

    Turn signals don't work

When the turn signal lever is actuated, does the corresponding bulb at least light up (get brighter), when in maintained position? Front and back..?

    Points to Electronic

My car is a 1965 Barracuda w/273 as of now but have a 318 out of a '74 Dart that is my new upgrade. The distrubuter out of the Dart was also a point type! I noticed where it was re-engineered!:wack:

    Points to Electronic

Alot of this is foreign to me and greatly appreciate all who help!! In the Full HEI kit, what all do you get? Thanks

    Points to Electronic

After further investigating, it was determined that previous engineering occurred with this distributor that came out of this car (1974)..

    Points to Electronic

    Are they that unreliable?

    Points to Electronic

As poorly as it ran (marginal) with the old tired 273, the fresh 318 w/upgrades should produce a smile and maybe tire marks..

    Points to Electronic

Hmmm, so it seems in the interest of simplicity, just purchase a reman dist., drop the PerTronix module in and connect to a recommended "better" coil to do away w/points. * the car is a 1965 Barracuda

    Points to Electronic

So, I could just get a 1974 electronic unit, upgrade to a better coil, & do away w/ballast resistor and use only the two wires coming out of new distributor which would connect across the coil? Any concerns with preferred ohmic values of matching coil to distributor ? I've noticed varying...

    Points to Electronic

I'm trying to organize a concise thought structure here with regard to converting to electronic. What is the difference from an old point style distributor (1965), with a PerTronix PNX-1281 installed in it versus a distributor for a (1974) year model, already "electronic" stock? After...

    starter/68 valiant

Some basic fundamentals: Establish/verify integrity of cable connections AND check ground at block.(Paint/corrosion can/will be a voltage drop [resistance] A simple battery load tester is a great tool. To figure out what you are doing w/a load tester is to use it on a known good battery...

Mopar dies when key is released

I experienced same issue a few years back and found fusible link hidden (routed in wire mold) mushy looking. When I squeezed the link I could tell it was nothing in there. Also if you have good light, sometimes they will be a tad different color/hue than rest of wire...heat effect I guess.
