Need opinions on best route to take

What makes sense to me based on your comment " i am going to have m y foot in it,,,,,,,,," go stroker bigblock so you can get SERIOUS low rpm torque for fun street driving. Consider this combo- a 440 block stroked 4.5 inch, bored .030 to 535 cubic inch or 543 at .060 over. Dress it wtith a set...

    Help finish my 414 stroker

You could use a lot more stall. My guess is 5000 for a strip only.

    !!!!!CALLING CAM EXPERTS!!!!!

As i recall, Vizards idea of what to is more important; 1st overlap degrees 2nd intake closing 3rd exhaust opening (will determine if cam is single pattern or dual.) If the engine combo needs 60 degrees overlap, and intake close is 70 degrees btdc then the LSA is 110 and duration of both...

    !!!!!CALLING CAM EXPERTS!!!!!

I have read what David Vizard has to say about cam design, and it impresses me. Vizard has decades of testing ,head porting and engine building under his belt, including some Indy car and foriegn motors. Basically lobe seperation is a function of overlap breathing, and how many cubes that flow...

Are girdles generally added for big rpm or HP or torque

The 5.0 newer crank i refered to is about 3.7 inch stroke. 2011 to 2019 models. Crower made my cw crank, and there are cheaper sources for cranks, hopefully sb ones.

Are girdles generally added for big rpm or HP or torque

I have no personal smalkblock experiance, but i have a center weighted crank in my bigblock making about 900 hp. Mega block, had some cap walk, put in center weighted crank, no cap walk, 7450 rpm shifts. My guess is a cw crank might allow another 150 hp before block failure. Hmmm, now how well...

Are girdles generally added for big rpm or HP or torque

Hear i go again. GET A CENTER WIEGHTED crank! Ford puts them in stock 5.0 mustangs for a reason. They rev to the moon, and Ford knows the hotrod crowd will push the limits, yet you don't hear of many failures. Center weighted cranks spread the load to not stress numbers 2 and 4. Number three now...

    Initial lead? 408, pump gas,

I will shoot for 20 + 10 then since i have a vacuum distributer and see how it goes.

    Initial lead? 408, pump gas,

408, pumpgas, EQ heads, 10.1 to 1 compression, liked 30 degrees max on the dyno. Cam is a Comp Thumpr 235/249/107 in at 105, airgap intake. It is at 14 initial now to get it back to 30 total in by 4,000. My converter flashes above 4,000. I am thinking of going to 20 initial plus 10 for 30 total...

How much HP can magnum rods take happily

Ever considered a rod for a small block chevy, since you may be changing pistons anyway? They may be easier to come by over there, and i haven't checked all the specs but there must be a ton of possibilitys.

Stock block plus 2.000 sbc rods, longset stroke?

Brian, the whole top end of EQ 2.02 heads and Comp Thumpr cam would be used. I have your cam and valvetrain combo on the 408, will use those items if i do this, including the 850 and airgap intake. The end result using the intake and cam i have may put the power peak down around 5400 if i get...

Stock block plus 2.000 sbc rods, longset stroke?

I would like to tighten the converter and run a taller rear gear to drop rpm and increase the throttle response. I just don't care for a "loose" feeling setup in a street driver. As far as how much stroke i want, it would be what ever i can put together for a modest price, like under a grand for...

Stock block plus 2.000 sbc rods, longset stroke?

This would be a torque build. My first ever stroker was a 535 rb motor with 906 heads. It had so much torque it shredded a stock Hemi converter in three passes. I miss that. The EQ heads i have flow the same as those old 906 bb heads! So rpm would be less than about 5800 maybe, and probably 530...

Stock block plus 2.000 sbc rods, longset stroke?

Just speculating. I am down with a back injury and too much time on my hands! If there is a crank core out there that could be ground on a bigger stroke for a somewhat reasonable price, it might be an interesting project. My 408 is a great motor, but even with the airgap dual plane and...

Stock block plus 2.000 sbc rods, longset stroke?

Title says it, how much stroke can you stuff into a magnum 5.9 block using the small rods? Kinda curious about A BIG street motor

Its officially Winter. Another small block build begins

Sounds like you will meet your goal, John. Especially if you go with the radials. I went from 8.77 with 33x14.50x15 MT radials to about 8.88 with 15x33x15 bias that weighed 6 lb more per tire. 3055 lb car at the time, mph was up 3. You might even scratch out a 9.40 something. You might want to...

    360 magnum cam choice

7dart0 the cam i suggested, will make Excelent power, but will have valve to piston problems and possibly valve guide clearace problems as well. I must have had brain freeze and plain overlooked the part about the stock bottom end.

    360 magnum cam choice

I would go with the custom bullet cam. It has a lot more duration, and particularly more overlap duration. You may need more stall to be happy. Do the valvetrain right, and the motor will pull to over 6,000 easily, and with the proper valvetrain parts will pull to 6500 and should make max power...

Tight lash setting solid flat tappet cam

That lash change on the 590 bb cam was worth a bunch,,,,, iron 906 heads on a 535 cube stroked 440.

Tight lash setting solid flat tappet cam

Not sure if you were refering to my post with your rant? I edited and added " cold" after .019 for clarity. Nothing was said about cold to hot lash change. My whole post was about learning what will happen when deviating from the lash settings on the cam card, and also what CAN happen when...

Tight lash setting solid flat tappet cam

The big danger would be with too tight exhaust lash. I wouldn't be afraid to try .008 on the intakes, but exhaust i would be carefull. There is some cam and parts flex that changes lash depending on where the lobe is on the base circle. On my race roller with VERY BIG springs with 350 lbs on...

    How fast ?

I just weighed the car 3115, no driver, 1/2 tank gas. These Darts are 5.23 inches more wheelbase than the valiant line.

    How fast ?

Thanks for the input. I agree, the closed exhaust, possible poor 60 ft, and no cold air package are going to hurt. I figure it will be off its' best potential by as much as half a second.
  28. gregsdart

    How fast ?

I might come in at 3200 with me in the car, based on the 66 dart weight and what i have that makes my Dart lighter. Thanks!
  29. gregsdart

    How fast ?

Figuring the weight is a tough one. It should be identical, or very close to a stock 273 automatic 2dr post. Heavier or lighter items are the wheels and tires, 31 lb ea fronts, 47.5 lb rears. Aluminum intake, headers, full 2.5 inch exhaust to the bumper, Wilwood front brakes, coilovers and rack...
