    8.8 swap

I used 2 of the explorer short cables. I put 2 angle tabs to mount the ends of the new cables and I made a new forward cable. I think my forward cable didn't work out so well, used regular hardware store cables must strech because the parking brake sucks. I also put an 8.8 in my Wrangler and...

    8.8 swap

The ones I got the 8.8s from didn't have an aluminum driveshaft. They had steel driveshafts, that's how i was able to put the Ford end on my driveshaft. The durango was not complete. Body was rotted out like I've never seen, I pulled the engine exhaust trans transfer case and wiring harness.

    8.8 swap

Last dismembered vehicle I scrapped was a durango and I got 25$. Would have been nice to part it out but I don't have the time or room for that. I got my engine and trans and off it went. You would have to check the length on the explorer driveshaft.

    8.8 swap

Driveshaft depends on what rear you had before. I had the same driveshaft in my duster with 8 1/4, 8 3/4, and 8.8. For the 8.8 I had the stock mopar end cut off and the for end welded to my driveshaft and balanced. The length stayed the same. So you should just be able to use a conversion joint...

    8.8 swap

I wish I remember where I saw it. From what I remember the conversion joint was like 30% weaker than the smaller joint

    8.8 swap

i remember seeing a chart that showed how much weaker conversion joints are than regular joints. I wish I knew where I saw that.

    A-Body Axles

I have run moser in a few cars. Never a problem. I have also run some of yukons products in an off-road rig and they are awesome.

    8.8 swap

Does anyone have an 8.8" long side axle laying around? I know some guys have narrowed them and run 2 short axles.

What are you guys doing for an overdrive setup?

I would go with a 4l80e if it's in the budget.

    4, 5 and 6 speed manual swaps

I did the viper t56 about 5 years ago. Used trans, everything else new, I'm really happy with it. The 2 overdrives aren't necessary but it's not a bad thing to have another option. I think it was also the cheapest way to get overdrive behind a BB.

    8.8 swap

I put gear oil, pads and rotors on mine and just ran it. Almaybe after a year or so the axle seals went. Might as well replace them before they make a mess. I put about 10,000 miles on mine so far.

There is also a mark on a tag on one of the cover bolts. There are charts online, easy to find with google.

    8.8 swap

I had an 8 1/4 that the axles had that play in them. I never pulled the cover to see if anything was worn out. anyone I talked to said that's normal for a c clip rear. It drove me nuts, I pulled the 8 1/4 put an 8 3/4 in it, only to swap that out for the 8.8

    8.8 swap

i dont think you can get them for the mopar sized joints and the 8.8", when i first did the swap we put the explorere end of the driveshaft in my stock driveshaft. same length. then i heard you can easily get the conversion joint. i never even looked into it. i think the stock explorerer is a...

i have about 10,000 miles on the 8.8 in my duster. most of that is with a 400 and viper t56. its not the fastest thing around but i do throw a beating at it regularly. i have no idea how many miles were on it when i got it, im sure a lot. all i did was clean it up fresh brakes, chop off the...

    8.8 swap

i used 2 passenger side caliper hoses. i boxed my spring perches, i drilled that 1/4" plate to mount both caliper hoses. i also used 2 driver side e brake cables and made up a new main cable to work, but i think im going to change that whole setup to the regular driver and passenger side cables...

Too high rpm - overdrive? Keisler?

i got my viper tranny for about the same price as a core 727 and having it rebuilt. it is still a used tranny though. i put new input and output seals in and resealed the case, it works perfect. im not saying the t56 is the best, but it fit the bill for me, and im a lazy auto guy. i looked...

Too high rpm - overdrive? Keisler?

the point of going with the t56 was to not deal with keisler. the nice thing about the 8 3/4 you can buy or buils another chunk and keep the 3.91 for the track. im too lazy to be swapping out chunks liek that but some peopel do, i just skipped the 8 3/4 all together.

Too high rpm - overdrive? Keisler?

i went with a viper t56 with .75 and .5 od. with 3.73 80 mph is 2,000 rpm in 6th. the bb has plenty of torque to just lug along, no problems holding speed even on hills.

    8.8 swap

it might cost the same as putting a b body 8 3/4 in, but you will have a posi and a decent gear ratio in the 8.8 i started with an 8 1/4 went to a b body 8 3/4 for the width, and took that out for the explorer 8.8 just because i didnt want to spend the cash on a posi and gears, plus it has...

pics of A bodies with B body rears please

i had one in my duster with the 8" bullit rims to get rid of the 1" spacers on the 8 1/4. i sold both rears to members on here and went with the explorer 8.8. the b body 8 3/4was a good fit but i only have the 17x8 with 245 45 17s. i dont think i have any pics.
