Like the above mentioned stay away from the 2.45 housings they are junk when you want to change gearing, found that out the hard way.

    9 1/4 rear end?

Just watch out what year it is, the 9 1/4s in the newer pickup trucks had a lot of problems with breaking, there was a NHTSA investigation into the 9 1/4's that came in RAMs they where failing at highway speeds.

    8 1/4 Seal

Chrysler engineered it to have a gasket, for less then 20.00 why not use a gasket that it was built with?

    8 1/4 Seal

The rear cover on a Chrysler 8 1/4 takes a gasket, it can be had at any local parts store and online. 8 1/4s are used all the way into the late 90's on different vehicles. http://www.rpmoffroad.com/Lube-Locker-Chrysler-8.25-Rear-Differential.html

    whats first?

    Ok guys, I know the debate is out there on 904 with a 8 1/4 VS a 727 with a 8 3/4 but Im going to keep the 8 1/4 and 904. So anyways I have a 360 with a stock 1974 904 transmission currently but I have a new http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ape-53022/overview/ TQ going in it, and the 8 1/4...

    Which automatic

Craigslist was an example, EBay FOABO so on and so on, People sell converters on here all the time, so they all crack heads too? IDK what it is with some of you guys on this forum some days..... :tongue7:

    Which automatic

Excuse me sir, the post that you just made did not offer any help to the OP so if you wouldn't mind just take a hike off a cliff.... :violent1:
  16. mopardrt

    Which automatic

Go look up prices on new High stall 904 converter then try to find a used one. Now go look up a brand new 727 High stall converter, then go look at craigslist and see how many reasonable used high stalls are out there for a fraction of the cost of a new one. Thanks for your time :thumblef:

:sign3:BWAHAH because if there is ONE person who should preach about useless posts in threads, that's you.
  18. mopardrt

    Which automatic

Truth is, the 904 is in fact lighter, and can be built to handle anything like the 727, BUT the parts are more expensive then doing a 727, just look at converters, try to find a used 904 high converter. Yeah right.

    8 1/4 question

The smallest gear that came in the A bodys 8 1/4 was the 2.45 and if so the carrier will only fit 2.45 gears and to go bigger you will need a carrier that had a larger gear.
